I walked some of the way ... and my cycle to work is very short ... the side of the roads was still icy around the Blanch shopping centre.

typical that your first week back on the bike would be icy

The causeway to Bull Island had ice all over the place this morning. So eh, everyone who was planning a cycle to Bull Island: be careful :)

I also had some kamikaze pedestrians jumping out at me this morning which really didn’t help with the icy conditions!

Dublin Airport/Swords pretty bad. Will it ever abate :(

Have my new AirJack so I'm a happy and warm camper:cool:. Yellow for visability :).

I came off my bike this morning went around a car coming out of a driveway and then the bike went sideways I slid down the road about 5-10 meters but thankfully my helmet took the brunt of the fall.

I have a bit of a headache and my neck is sore so thank God I bought a good helmet. I think the lady in the car was more shocked than I was.

I'm sick of the ice at this stage, or rather sick of worrying about the ice. All the crashes and broken bones in December really made me cagey about it. The sickener is that its still only January, so we could have up to two months of it yet.

At least I've got the rollers, but it just ain't the same as being on the road.

Have you been on them much?
I managed to put in 45 minutes on them on Sunday. I'm not sure I'm using them efficiently. Gonna have to read up a bit more.

Two hours on Sunday. An hour on Monday.

Are you doing those 2 hours all in one go?

Yep. Kind of tricky though. I've to sit up and grab the wall to drink. Also moving around on the saddle is tricky, so you do tend to get a bit of a sore arse. Are you able to stand while pedalling on yours?

Actually, that's the one thing I haven't tried yet.

Shifting in the saddle tends to bump the back wheel around a bit for me.

    Same here.

I actually fell off once on Sunday. I'd noticed a neighbour on his balcony looking at me and looked over at him and lost my concentration for a second. Let the back wheel drift too far to the right. It hit the rubber belt, causing it to pop off and jam up the back roller. Quite embarrassing.

Not fallen off yet, but I had a few close ones when trying the no hands thing for the first time. At least you can't go far if you do come off.

... Have you checked youtube? Could be under 'balcony + cyclist + fall on his arse' ...

    Were you wearing your helmet?

I was more worried about cracking my frame or doing something dumb like that.

Of course, it would be supreme misfortune to break your arm falling off your rollers, after using them to avoid cycling on icy roads.

I was starting to wonder if it was just me. I went around some corners this morning in Lucan with my feet off the pedals and I was wondering if I'm just turning into an old woman who sees a wet road now and thinks it might be icy. That morning a couple of weeks ago with black ice everywhere has made me eye every damp road with total suspicion.

I know the feeling. I had a couple of spills in December due to icy corners - nothing major at all, but annoying.

I can't hack turbo trainers and yet to try rollers but I've mainly been sticking to the N11 south of bray when there's talk of ice. Main road has so far been ice-free by mid morning at least - and there's no corners.
