Disadvantages of combining/splitting

I mentioned to someone wanting to run an extra length of coax from an aerial in the attic down into to their TV that they could use the existing cable which goes from an FTA box up to the dish, via the attic using a combiner and splitter.

I know ideally you would want a dedicated length of coax for each, so what are the possible disadvantages of combining VHF/UHF analog with satellite signals down one length of coax? (vs the aesthetics and effort required to run a new length)

There shouldn't be any problems if the cable is CT100 grade or equivalent and if the diplexers are good quality.

Just be sure they know what they are buying. The combiner and face plate splitter should be less than 30 euro.

As far as I know you can't use any old combiner to combine UHF and Sat. When I did this for my sister's house I got a combiner that had "DC pass" on one side only (as far as I remember).

The real experts here might be able to give more technical details.

Its also worth checking first that there isn't a second unused cable behind the existing plate.

you need a special satellite /TV diplexer. It splits at about 900MHz.
    5MHz to 870MHz for TV
    950MHz to 2200MHz + DC for satellite.

If you need power over coax for a TV pre-amp, the power supply has to go onthe TV aerial side of splitter.

You need a 2nd one at TV/Setbox end.

Do you mean another power supply at the TV end?

    no
The Satellite / TV diplexer needs to be at both ends.
