Advice on apply to Uni in England, specifically London, as a Mature student

Ok, starting to get a bit panicky about this but it's time to sort it out

So after a 2 year engineering course, which I did well at, I went to London and worked in some impressive (on paper) places and got a bit of experience for about 2 years, but became frustrated with the hours and low pay (That's the media industry for you)

Now I'm just gone 23 and want to go back to get a good degree (definitely not in Engineering) in one of the colleges in London, as a mature student, as I had always planned. Thinking of Economics or Marketing, or something like that

    I have a few questions:

-What grants would I be entitled as a mature student? EU grants etc.
-How should I apply and when is the deadline?
-Why is a good Uni to apply to, in terms of both studying and social life

Thanks for your help in advance!

You may get better replies about the types of courses and grants available to you in the NI & GB colleges forum.

The deadline for UCAS was 15th January but don't you can still apply as a late entry and see if you get lucky. You need to write a personal statement and have a reference along and may have to attend an interview.

www.studential.com and www.thestudentroom.com are two websites I have looked at for information and advice. They are aimed more at school leavers but still has good advice and thestudentroom has a mature student section.

Yeah found out today abou the 15th of January and I'm gutted

Was preparing for this since sept but put it off for a few months thinkking it was somthime in Febuary. How did I not know the deadline?

Do you know the chances of getting a place if I apply in the next couple of days? I'm guessing there's much less of a percentage of me getting one. If I left it until next year I'll be 25 going back :(

Maybe you got confused with the CAO deadline which is 1st Feb?

I'm not sure about getting a place as a late entrant. But they do have a clearing system in August where they fill up places so I think you still have a good chance. Send your application off and speak to the colleges you've applied to and see what they say.

Don't be worrying about your age! I'll be turning 27 in October and I'm hoping to go back this year. :)

Well after doing some research I've found out that I have until the 30th of January. I wont be given "equal consideration" but will be better than the clearing option that I mentioned. Can't believe I missed it. I was preparing since September but obviously not enough

Going to apply on the CAO too. On the UCAS one you have to write out a Personal Statement so I'll be putting a lot of work into that in the next few days.

You'll also have to submit a personal statement for the CAO along with letters of recommendation, exam results and a CV. The more info you give them about yourself so they can see what type of person you are the better.

Have a look at those websites I mentioned above for ideas of the layouts of personal statements. Do not copy as UCAS has a system to check this!
