Final Ascent

He stood without memory of his ascent, the dirt track route from the Lydon house engrained in his mind having spent innumerable hours here over the years in retreat and reflection.
Portentous clouds crawled by allowing the powerful moon to periodically illuminate the blackness sprawled below. As the whisper of a sedated sea encouraged his surrender, he knew it was time. He accepted denial plagued his soul for too long. The illness and depression gave him reason to fight and carry on in search of something better. But now there was nothing. He felt nothing; even his mind was numb to the flailing memories, memories of events that had led him to this the lowest peak in his thirty-eight years.

Thanks for your encouraging comments. I was beginning to think the passage wasn't worth a second glance....

Very nice. It's definitely worth a second glance!
I, for one, would like to read more.

Considering the childlike attempts that are generating so much unnecessary publicity on here in the last few week. It was very refreshing to read an article that had some real substance to it. Im just surprised that it slipped down into the scrapheap without ever being noticed. It seems that sometimes cream takes its time to reach the top. Just like An File, i to would like to read more of your work.
    kind regards
