Authorization problem playing HD videos on unibody Macbook...

Ok guys, this is one for anyone here who has a US iTunes account and has used HD TV show/movie downloads... I'm having an extremely weird problem with iTunes but only on my unibody Macbook...

Basically, when you buy a TV show, the SD and HD version are both downloaded at the same time. My iTunes client is authorized and can play purchased music, etc and the SD version of any video I download plays fine. But the HD version keeps complaining that iTunes is not authorized and that I need to enter my password - no prompt appears though. I've tried authorizing/de-authorizing the account to no avail. I've nuked iTunes using AppZapper and reinstalled from scratch, still no change...

But... on my previous gen. MBP, the same videos, with the same iTunes account, work just fine, playing back the HD versions!

I can't find anything on this, as googling for HD video playback problems with the new MacBooks keeps bringing up hits for the external display HDCP issues and not much else... Any ideas?
