Been looking to get a new car for about a year or so, thankfully i'm in the position of being a 10 min walk from work so I suppose I don't actually need a car but I would like to have one. Myself and the GF have a car and she uses it for going to work (vectra) but sometimes we have issues if I need it and she has to rush home from work etc..

Now I was debating getting something like these in from the UK
    http://www.cargiant.co.uk/Mazda/6/details-411453-Mazda-6.asp

    http://www.cargiant.co.uk/Mercedes/C-class/details-411187-Mercedes-C-class.asp

Now in these uncertain times I'm hesitant to shell out 10/11k on a car when I may not have a job a few months down the line (though at this point I'm confident I'll be gainfully employed for the rest of this year anyway! hopefully:o)

So I was thinking of getting something cheaper, I would probably only do 100 miles (if even per week) to work and to football
so was thinking of getting this
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Volkswagen/Bora/1.4-17-I/200902191410743/advert

Now 3k for this seems mighty high compared to what I'm seeing across the water for even a bit more money.

So I was thinking of offering about €1900 for this...

What do you guys think fair or not??

Now let the heated debate rage on!

Such a complete variety of cars there. If you are doing such little mileage, you would be mad to spend any money on something. I would rule out the Mercedes as it's the dearer of the lot, plus the costs of taxing and insuring it.

The 1.4 engine in those Bora's at the time was really a ball of crap. They are known for drinking oil, and once they get up around the 100k mark they become a very rough engine. (Apparently wear on the tappets). Because of the leather steering wheel, and the bodycoloured trim, i'd suspect it to be a trendline, or high than base spec model. But the fact that it has the replica wheels (and the baseline seats) on it leads me to think they could of been sprayed, and the steering wheel a retro fit. Getting those plastic bits sprayed can be fairly costly, due to the primer required and the pieces needing to be sanded down. Other than that, they can be done very cheaply and as a results, the paint can crack. Despite all this i think it would make a good car for the 2k mark, but i can imagine the dealer giving to the speel "Oh she has the body coloured bits, and wheels worth 800euro" so it could be a hard bargain to get them to 2k.

I wouldn't get the Bora. Big heavy underpowered car. Those big wheels won't be kind on the gear box either.

    ehh ???

What has the size of wheels got to do with the gearbox ????

Hard on wheel bearings maybe ... but wheels have nothing to do with the gearbox. If anything the larger circumference should mean the cogs are rotating slower.

I would agree that the car would be better off with the original wheels.
