BA Long Haul

I am flying with BA long haul from Heathrow to Shanghai in July.

I am in economy and notice there is now two different economy classes normal and premium.
    Premium Economy

A quiet, separate economy cabin that offers an extra 7" leg room, greater seat recline and your own seatback video screen and in-seat laptop power. World Traveller Plus offers extra space at an economy price.

    EconomyTraveller/Domestic/economy

Flying economy with us is all about great service at an affordable price. On all flights, enjoy a professional service from our highly trained cabin crew. On our long haul services, enjoy complimentary drinks and meals. On our European and UK services we offer complimentary drinks and snacks.

    Suppose to be a Boeing 777 200 or 300.

Has anyone ever flown with BA long haul and wondering what is economy like?

Do the seats not have their own tv as mentioned above?

I thought the long hauls would.

    Whats the leg room like?

I think BA Premium Economy is worth the extra for a long haul. More leg room, more space, personal tv - usually a 2 3 2 configuration, rather than 3 4 3. Service a little better.

Cheers its €400 extra return. would it be worth it?

I doubt it'd be worth that much extra really...I'd prefer to spend an extra night at my destinantion if that's the difference!

How many hours will you be on the flight for? If it's sub-7 hours then it ain't worth it in my book.

I flew to tobago on a BA 777 and economy was pretty good. I would be happy flying that distance in ecocomy to save 400 quid. It depends what you are used to but BA are a cut above most airlines.

BA's premium economy is alright. Not spectacular (same food, drinks and entertainment as economy). It's only worth it really if you want/need an extra few inches of seating space and a little more seat width.

Its 11 hours flight over and 12 hours back.

I had this thought I would be stuck watching whatever film they put on a big screen instead of having my own headrest tv.

You will have your own personal tv in regular economy, if you are flying on a 747/767 you will have AVOD which is even better.

I can't vouch for BA's Prem Econ but in my opinion it's worth paying the extra for Prem Econ on a flight that long for just one reason.......there is less chance of any crying kids to be sat near you.

When you are sat at home on your laptop €400 euro is a lot of money but when you are sat in a nice, quiet, spacious (even if it is only a little bit) cabin it will feel like money well spent.

Have flown quite a few times with BA long haul and I would not pay an extra €400. Economy is perfectly adaquate for me. Are you a tall person? I am 5`6 and there was loads of leg room.

Then again if €400 is a drop in the ocean to you then go for it. If I could afford it and money was no object then I would be in bs/first class!

    cheers for the reply.

    I am around 5 10 - 11. Flights are €635 in econ or €1035 in prem.

how much of the 11/12 hours are your gonna be sleeping?!!

paid for the extra money and regretted it after as i didnt even enjoy the 'features'#

ya might think its worth it because u will be in more comfort but its 12 hours it wont kill u.... spend it on an extra night or special holiday treat

Flown BA Premium Economy a few times, and eventually gave up. The extra legroom is nice, but it's just not worth it to me as everything else is the same (food/entertainment etc.). In your case, I'd definitely not bother given it's an extra 60% or so.

If you're undecided, you can usually upgrade at the airport for a pretty low price on the day anyway if there are seats available. Other advantage of doing this is that you'll know what seat you would get. On some BA 777s, the Premium Economy is is 2-4-2, and I know I'd be upset to end up in the middle of a 4 having paid a few hundred Euro for the comfort.

I am leaving at 4pm in the afternoon so I don't think I would be getting much sleep.

Can always do a few laps of the plane if needs be :D

I think I'll leave it for now

Might check on the day and see how I get on.

    Thanks all
