Was wondering others thoughts on this, and not sure if there's another thread on this or whether this is the right forum, but anyway...

If every source of media tomorrow said "Recessions Over" etc etc, would it be? (In the eyes of the people like)

Not for all those who have lost their jobs

I don't think so cause they could only say it if there was an actual upturn in growth

Of course not, recession is a technical term. The media's reporting the reality. Brian Cowen on the other hand is in la-la land. unpatriotic media my ass. He wasn't saying that when he was in meeting Tony O'Reilly looking for their support to push FF in the last election.

I used to wonder that too, because people stopped spending because the news is constantly saying "WE'RE ALL F*CKED"

Far too many people believe the media is responsible for sending the country into a recession. The country has to be in recession for 6 months before its actually confirmed its a recession.

If you've loss your job or feel like your job is under threat (most people in private sector), the media can say what it wants.

No. It's like when Bertie said people who talked about the recession should commit suicide. Just because he told us our economy was the envy of Europe didn't mean anyone in Europe thought so.

I'd assume there were no paedo trials to cover.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I would like to see that but I dont think media would like the likes of that to happen, also, it's not very likely.

It was. A recession is when a country's Gross Domestic Product drops for 6 months straight. Our's Did = A Recession was declared.

My 2cents tho is that this is one giant vicious circle.

Media Made Big Song and Dance a Recession had started.
Consumers got worried and began to tighten belts.
Business revenue drops due to belt tightening resulting in cut jobs.

Media Makes Big Song a Dance about the Job Cuts.
Consumers panic and tighten belts more.
Business revenue drops further resulting in more job cuts.

    Same cycle over and over...Until....

    Media Shuts the Hell Up.
Consumers confidence returns. Then we all spend more increasing revenue for businesses. Which then grow and create loadsa jobs. YAY!
Now repeat that cycle a few million times and we're sorted lol :D

Not by any means as simple as that I know but the bottom line here that consumer spending needs to increase if were gonna come outta this mess anytime soon.

It's grand tho, Obama will have all this sorted by next week

The media have definitely contributed to the problems in our economy, every single day there is a mention of the words "doom and gloom". If I hear them using those words again Im gonna scream. "More gloomy news in consumer confidence".arrhhhh
Of course there fukking is if you keep telling us we shouldnt be spending.
They didnt cause the recession, builders and banks did, but the media are definitely adding their fair share.

Haha, I read this thread striaght after posting an entry on my blog headlined "Ireland is f*cked".

The Media has the power to expose some of the time but not to work miracles.

The media is more at fault for being seduced by the advertisers who paid up to put property porn in their publications making objectively reporting on the clearly developing property bubble much more difficult to get published, than it is for talking down the economy.

Its more at fault for "advertising up" the economy in the first place than talking it down now...

I'm tired, hope you get what I'm saying...
