hi all, i applied for jsa last november and was told i needed a letter from college stating i left it before christmas to be cleared for payments, i only recieved that letter two weeks ago and dropped it into the swo, i was told id get all the back pay i was owed now im just wondering if i have to go to the local post office to collect it all or will it be deposited into my bank account? all i was told was that my next sign on day is on the 27th nothing more was said. i had previously been on state benefit so i figured i would recieve payment in the same way i did before i went to college? can anyone shed some light on this? thanks in advance and my apologies for the layout of this thread im using a mobile phone to post this!

In your post office, ring S.W. ask when your money will be sorted. You will need your social welfare card / temporary card which is got in your social welfare office.

it depends sometimes it will the full amount will be lodged straight to your bank account and other times you will receive most of it by cheque in the post.

I was owed a few months money and I got it in one lump sum, I've never heard of anyone getting a cheque.

They stopped people from using their bank accounts as way of payment.

It is not clear from your post if your claim has been authorised yet. Are you currently getting payment? If so, your back money will be credited to your weekly payment in the post office, whenever a Deciding Officer gets to deal with it. Depending on the backlog, it could take a few weeks - it is difficult to give you a precise time. If however you are not in payment as yet, it will probably be paid along with your first or second payment.

f you were getting payment from a CWO prior to your claim being authorised, it may take some time for your back money to be paid out, as Social Welfare has to wait for the CWO to send their "bill", and then the arrears are calculated.

You could always check up on it when you are next in your office to sign.
