I was given a guitar, it's was a wonderful surprise (helps that I can play too!)

    Think outside the box.

I'm getting mine a mountain bike :D - hey might as well be something he'll use!

Edit: Something REALLY special and different would be a rally driving day out. I did this a few months back and I'd be hard pushed to find someone who wouldn't enjoy it! I did it through www.rallyconnection.com (waterford)

Is he into art or photography? Something like that would be something you'd have forever.

Got him a playstation 3 as an extra big Christmas present. Guilt is a wonderful thing.

I got mine a nice new digital camera that he had his eye on for a while.... and its not even an 'us' present cos I'm not allowed touch it!! (I dropped and broke our last 2 cameras so this is a sensible rule :p )

Definitely doesn't have to be jewellery / watch (he won't wear these either)

It's not really a "done thing" as such but some women like to give a token of thanks seeing as the bloke has often paid up to thousands for the engagement ring.
