After many weeks of procrastination, I have decided to write a blog. I heard that people are making large piles of money doing it and I would like some of that quick and easy cash for myself.

Anyway, without doing any research, I joined www.blog.com but I have found it to have some annoying features, so I am looking at alternatives.

Can people please recommend a site that is very active, user friendly and either free or cheap? What about:

    www.blogger.com ?

    www.livejournal.com ?

    www.xanga.com ?

Mods, I chose this forum as it has a lot of viewers, and I couldn't see anywhere else to put it. Please move if there's somewhere more suitable.

Writing a blog for cash is a pointless excercise. Only a few people are making any money out of it, and those people generally have something to write about that's attracting eyeballs to their site.

So unless you have good content, lots of eyeballs and a lack of competition you're unlikely to make any significant cash out of blogging.

Yeah, I know. It was just a light-hearted lead-in to my real question regarding decent blog sites ;)

Wordpress.com - Free hosting, decent selection of templates

Wordpress.org - Need to get your own hosting plan, ridiculously customisable and great though

Tumblr - Free and very customisable, lacks a lot of the inbuilt features wordpress has though

But if you don't try - you'll never achieve anything.
There are people making money from blogging - with google adsense and afilliate schemes and there is no reason why you can't try. The main source of traffic will be google - so you will have to make sure the site does well on there. Most of the free blogging sites won't let you put your own ads on. Try getting a domain name and a free install of wordpress at Blacknight.com
