Hypothetical Question Re Job description

Mary has a job. She is headhunted from that job to another supposedly job working for Pat.
Pat's company offers Mary 2000 a year more and she changes jobs.

However the job in Pat's company is not what Mary was told that it would be.

Given that Mary has given up her existing job to work for Pat does she have any comeback if Pat tells her that she must do the job he assigned her or be dismissed.

Assume that less than one year has elapsed since Mary came to work for Pat.

Under contract law that would be a misrepresentation or inducement, so there would be a comeback of sorts. The employment law reality is that there is possibly some type of probation period in the contract which would allow either side to breach on short notice.

Moving for 2000 is plain stupid.
