Thinking the same thing, am leaning more towards a Western Digital Caviar Green in the same kind of bracket (bout €100 delivered from UK).

What are noise / power consumptions / heat like on these does anyone know?

Years ago I had some bad experiences with them. In recent years I've had all sorts of drives fail. Normally though I'd go with a WD drive if given the choice.

(please note thats just my personal opinion and years ago = 6+ years)

If someone is thinking of buying and has to get it shipped rather than collecting it themselves, its cheaper to buy from saverstore.co.uk. Works out about 10euros cheaper w/shipping

No such thing as terabyte 2.5" drives yet, I'm afraid.

    Don't think so mate:
    Drive: £59.99
    Shipping: £3.99
    VAT: £9.90
    Shipping surcharge to Ireland: £19.99
    Total: £93.87
    Converted to euro: €100.80

Bit pricerier that 91.55! - Do correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh right, didnt check the delivery info about £19.99 surcharge. I just went as far as I could with the checkout and it didnt seem to ask me for the extra £19.99. So you're probably right

My experience goes a good few years back when they were nicknamed deathstart. Maybe that is in the past, but my recent TB acquisition has been a Samsung SpinPoint F1 which is €13 more from Komplett than the Deskstar. My F1 has been running 24/7 for six months and no issues at all. Thinking of buying a second one...

I've had two 400GB Hitachis for the past 3-4 years. Never had any trouble. Only stopped using them when I got a Seagate 1.5TB last week.

Happy enough with Hitachi that I'd already bought one of these before the Komplett price drop

I bought two 500GB Hitachi drives from Komplett in 2007 when they were this price. I've had no problems to report, only I had to set the Acoustic management setting to standard as it was set to default to performance, this helped reduce the hard drive noise a good bit.

These work out about €88, not on special offer, from scan.ie including delivery.

Hmm, I'd be inclined to head towards the Samsung at that price.

That said, it's still a nice price.
