Is a f connector splitter (That is widely used in cable tv setups) ok to use for basic satellite signal splitting?
Basically ive used all 4 connections on a quad LNB and I am looking to add another connection. Was going to add a connection to an exsisting feed that is not used all the time (ie box is switched off and only on when in use in a spare room)

Cant see the point of buying an octo LNB when i have plenty of these splitters hanging around. Dont want to connect up incase i do damage.

An F-splitter will not do what you require as when you split the signal it will simply allow the freq determined from the main box to dictate what polarity to be selected therefore an additional box will not work correctly.

You will need an octo LNB if you wish to add another box.

You should never split a sat signal.

yeah but the other box will be turned off, no power? Thats what im on about? i was going to split it between the 2 spare rooms. i use 1 spare room as an office at the moment.

It wont work unless you use what used to be called a "smart priority switch".

Sky boxes don't work with a smart switch.

Really you won't regret getting an Octo.

Or you can add a Multiswitch that is compatible with Quad or Quattro and that allows up to 16 outlets.

They do. If you have a digibox and a non-digibox, simply connect the digibox to the slave port.

If you have 2 digiboxes, then connect up the switch to Scart pin 8 of one of the boxes. However, the manufactuer of the this type of switch (Global Communications) appears to have gone under, so it's becoming increasingly difficult to source them.

@Snaps - The danger with using a simple splitter is if both receivers are powered on simultaneously, they can damage each other. I use the equivalent of one of these Spauns to feed 3 receivers and a spectrum analyzer. The diodes prevent accidental damage.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread but it's a related query...

If I have a single coax coming into my living room...can Sky Plus/FreeSat Plus work? I know the LNB needs to be at least a double...but is it one or two coax cables I need?

Also, I have a Freesat HD Telly...I plan to get a DTT and Sat combo set top box...do I now need a triple LNB and three or one cable(s)?! Confused?...yes I am!

You need two coax for Sky+ or SkyHD. There is reduced functionality if only one is used as then a tuner must be disabled.

Sky+/HD comes with a Quad LNB, so a 3rd cable can run to the TV, a fourth to a combo setbox.
