I just rang up the HSE and they told me that rent allowance for a one bedroomed flat in Cork would only be available if the rent is less than 115 per week. They said if the rent is more than that you're not eligible or allowed to pay the difference yourself. Is this really how it works in practice? There are very few 1 bed flats available for that price, if any!

Looking for the same info as you. I am in Kildare and I was told that €520.00 per month is the maximum that will be paid. No way I can find anything for this price other than sharing which I do not want.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news guys but it's true. I'm in Dublin myself and have been told to find accomodation for €130 a week, max. That or convince the landlord to reduce my rent to €130 a week. I asked the CWO if I could pay the difference, I was told "No".

Instead the CWO said I should have no problem finding somewhere to live for under €130 a week in this current economic climate. I told her I'd already searched for places to live in that price range and the only one I could find in Dublin was in Rush. She basically called me a liar.
