Logging in to Magnet Router (2Wire)

    Hey guys,

Anyone recently had any luck logging into a Magnet supplied 2Wire router? The model I have is 2Wire 2700HGV. I know that Magnet routers are basically open as every device connected to them gets a fully routable Static IP address in the range 87.x.x.x so trying to access the router in the traditional 192.168.1.x manner etc does not work. I have tried (as suggested on various forums):

    192.168.0.1
    192.168.1.1
    192.168.1.254
    192.168.0.254
    10.0.0.1
    172.16.0.1
    http://2wire.gateway.net
    http://home

I did manage to log in to the same router about 2.5 years ago by connecting it up via USB and going to http://home but I cannot get that to work now anymore, I'm thinking Magnet may have changed the firmware. The problem when I connect up via USB now is that I cannot get the driver to install, no matter what I try I get a yellow exclamation over the device in device manager and the message that the device cannot start. I have tried the drivers from a few different sources - all seem to be from 2002 and are no. 1405. I have tried this on Vista (which the driver doesn't list as supporting anyway), XP and Windows 2000, all to no avail.

I need access to the router so I can turn off the wireless as I have another wireless router doing that, or at least so I can turn off WEP and turn on WPA2 with MAC address control.

Anyone had any luck with this ? I suppose I could get on to Magnet I'm sure I can get them to change those settings for me if all comes to all...

AFAIK, Magnet don't allow their customers to access the router, which is a real security problem since they have wireless enabled with WEP by default. Ring tech support and ask, as this is probably the only way you'll be able to do this.
