Prob starting off with mtt's and SnG's and gradually switching to cash as you improve is the best way.
And running good always helps.

It would have been nice if he had asked a serious question too, instead of just asking how to make money at poker. It's a pointless question if he gives us no more information to go on. The best answer would probably have been play the highest stakes available and run well.

Buy a stake in pokerstars or start your own poker site and make it into one of the biggest in the world, both these options are easier than MTT's, Cash or STT's.

I find 20 and 30 handed SnG's are a good starting point to get a feel for the software and then try to progress to the micro stakes cash tables , but the mtt's are always a crap shoot and you will need all the luck in the world to survive these (waste of time IMO) Goodluck with it anyway..

i've started at that point but to be honest u would really need to keep a level head at the small stakes i mean NO BLUFFING at all people callin down with King high

.... although another good way to make money online is to start sending emails claiming your a nigaran prince looking for people's bank a/c numbers

try developing a way to search the Web, I'd say whoever comes up with a really good algorithm to do that will make billions.

if you are serious about poker first realise it's not easy to make money online from the outset. even if you are an experienced and well coached player it's still NOT EASY. it takes hard work, very hard....and even then it's not guaranteed to be steady an smooth and at a level that's wortwhile for you.

(i'm assuming you are a complete beginner)

start by playing some very small stakes sit n goes and some micro stakes cash online to learn basics of game. then i would actually go and play a few small/cheap buy -in live tourneys live just to get the live 'feel' fom the off. join other forums where there are less pisstakers and general knobends and more help than here (e.g. 2+2 beginners from was/is just brilliant for me) where you can ask the questions about basic strategy and approach to making progress and you'll get a bit of the old ridicule and piss taking but get loads of decent and respectful and incredibly helpful and decent people there as well (i don't know i think it's a cultural thing-United States CAN DO-WILL DO-WILL HELP thing VS the Irish ah sure he's only a muppet let's take the piss, sure he's the competition, begrudgery type thing). anyway you have loads to learn and so that's how i suggest you start......i.e. just getting a feel for the game by playing really small and joining forums and studying the material for beginners. in time you will realise JUST HOW MUCH MORE there is to learn and know to make it.

if you are one of the special ones this WILL BE HOW YOU WILL MAKE MONEY ONLINE (through poker of course). it's your very first step.
