Just watching this. Very interesting and well filmed. And Charlie's commentary is excellent. Well done to all concerned.

he's one of the people i'd like to lamp:mad:, however, the filming of the doc is well shot.

I think he fancies himself as the Michael Palin of RTE - give us strength......................

was watching this, but was feeling a bit cold... charlie annoys me a bit too

I liked it. Think he is doing well in the conditions and is balancing the story of the inuit people with the global warming issues. I was also impressed with "Blood of the Irish" the past two weeks. About time RTE made some quality documentaries.

And how much of the TV licence is paying for Charlies little excursion??

I'd pay much more to send him further away.

I have refused to watch any of the ego driven travel shows with Charlie Bird since I had the misfortune to catch him moaning his way across the Amazon last year.

Their was an excellent p1sstake of him on Gift Grub this morning where he turned the Washington inaugoration around to be all about him.

    Impressed . . .

You should take a look at the blood of the Irish thread :)

Absolutely loved Charlie Bird's programme and can't wait to see Part 2. Not so sure about Blood of the Irish - thought it was so drawn out and the music was awful. IMO !!

remember charlies last amazon expedition ? was all about HIM, was looking froward to seeing this to see him talk about himself again for a laugh but missed it.

charlie back to studio " i did'nt sleep at all last night, there was a foot of water in the ground floor of teh hotel, there is no heating , i have to make do with sandwiches............ meanwhile, 200,000 have been killed in the tsunami".............. this is charlie bird , only 3,500 miles from the danger area.!!!

Little excursion? Is it only because it is Charlie Bird that you ask this question?

I've always found Charlie to be a bit melodramatic. He's a good enough reporter, but tends to take credit for stories that have been thrown in his lap as if he unearthed the facts himself.

I am more annoyed by the other RTE staff who use that No Frontiers program to get their own holidays for free. The only way that guy Baz should get a holiday to Egypt on the taxpayers money is if it is a one way ticket.

I think, Sir, the OP is entitled to ask the question ? As indeed he would be entitled to ask how many RTE liggers are over in DC for Obama's inauguration ?

I see Fergal K is over there AGAIN - for a bumblin twat that guy surely gets around.

Fas lads must be mad jealous...

Are you Charlie Bird? or perhaps you're related to him?

I haven't been able to listen to him ever since he came to prominence shouting at us about Father Niall O'Brien all the way from the Phillipines - another reason to turn off RTE:(

Well that is my opinion and I am entitled to it. I liked the concept. A step in the right direction at least.

    Hi,
can anyone here tell me what the tune/band is that plays in the background during the advert for this show on RTE. It's the piano-y tune used as the background music. No one can tell me. Thanks.

It's Sigur Ros.. as most tv stings are these days.

For the record, can you quit bashing RTE for trying to make programmes?

This was not an ego driven junket. It was a guy who had a sincere interest in discovering and sharing a place that we rarely get to see. It was well done, well fimed, well balanced and well worth watching. 'Blood of the Irish' by the way meandered all over the shop, but hey, that's TV, not all shows are good (just look at TV3 for example).

Anyway, wonder how many people who moan about licence fees actually pay them.

    hey guys

just wondering can ye help me out here, If you watch Charlie Bird's Arctic Journey (2nd episode-26th Jan) on the RTE website and go towards approx. 00h:41m:37s on the media player.

does anyone know the tune played in the background when the ship stops and lands exactly at the North-Pole? Its the part just after the guy is counting down 10..9..8..7..6..etc.

Thought it sounded like Sigur Ros or something but I dont think it is. It's a class piece of music and I have been trying to find it out but with no success.

Does anyone know the name of that song and artist?

    Thanks guys.

It's Hoppipolla. Don't know how I missed that before but that's it. Deadly. Magic. Remember it now from the picnic last year. Thanks for putting me on the right track

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,971 ✭✭✭teednab-el

Its definately not hoppipolla..this is the tune to hoppipolla.
    http://ie.youtube.com/watch?v=_EyI4p0yjDQ if im not mistaken.

click on Episode 2 (26th Jan) then go to exactly 00:41 mins on the real media player on RTE Website here's the link
    http://www.rte.ie/tv/charliebird/av_index.html

The tune is played after the part where your man is counting down when they land the ship precisely on the North Pole point. Thats the tune im looking for. Its definately not hoppipolla but the tune sounds like something that Sigur Ros would produce.

    Thanks.
