    www.gui.ie
www.teetimes.ie im not too sure. good idea to have a list off courses and get people to rate and maybe write comments on?? maybe prices etc? could be handy becasue i dont know half the course around haha

That would seem a better idea, let the members rate the courses as it would be independent then , unlike some other sites where they are trying to promote the courses for financial reward I would prefer if the review waas honest and gave good as well as bad points, cheers stuey

Spinal Tap, take a look here... i'd say this will help you out no end...

    http://www.golfingireland.ie/

Click on golf clubs at the bottom of the page and it gives pretty much every course in Ireland.

Also, there's a couple of sites out there that already do the whole 'post a review of a course' thing so getting your own niche on it would be better perhaps.

Good luck with it though, look forward to seeing it.

yeh, that's the one i was thinking of. Not great, and certainly something that could be greatly improved upon.

Any site surely needs to have a niche. No offence SteveIre, but from looking at your site, i don't see the point in it.

None taken! Bit of side project that I never got around to finishing!

Main point was to have Golf Club listings and Golf Lessons Listing, I know there available already but not on the same website as far as i'm aware. And where people can rate/review golf courses and instructors... Plus as said before they're all promoting certain courses on other websites....

    Suggestions/Criticism etc always welcome!

I think the lessons / instructors idea is an interesting one. A list, with user feedback/reviews would be very handy. Just look at the number of people on here who come on looking for advice about which pro to go to.

I'd certainly like to see something like that on a website.

Yeah that could be done, need people to post feedback/reviews though!!
Could have a section with the latest reviews or something... If you click on an instructor/golf course you can add a review...

    Sorry for derailing spinaltap... :o

If any one would like to suggest a name for the new site please feel free to do so, looking for a .ie name , I would like to get people involved from the start as it is a community based website for golfers by golfers sounds like a cliche, not meant to be though

as i'm not a member anywhere i use an english website golfshake.com to enter in the details of my rounds which gives me back info on my playing handicap. might be an option too?

To develop that would take a lot of time, money and effort. Do you have any experience in web development?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 112 ✭✭spinaltap

Yes I have done quite a few websites now, using dreamweaver adobe photoshop etc, just not sure how you would intergrate your handicap into the site.

I see that you use Joomla for your, was it just the content management or did you do the whole site there

Thats not what I meant when I mentioned web development!! I meant Javascript/jQuery/PHP/AJAX etc etc

No, I used the CMS for the whole login system, the rating system is all based on PHP and mySQL and the Forum is phpBB integrated with the CMS (to allow the users to sync)

As i said before, I did it as a side project. Mainly to test out CMS and its features...

Its looks good on all accounts, fair play, Nearly finished mine , should be next week, have the phb forum, programmin isnt up to much so I have someone doing that for me, not easy to get up and running, sure it will take plenty of time, have the domain in with the iedr at the moment so fingers crossed for the .ie, thanks for your advise

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭stevire

Fair play that was quick.... A hint if you havent done programming, check out widgets being offered, or youtube widgets (you could add and allow others to add golf lesson youtube videos to play on your website).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,512 ✭✭✭stevire

An example of youTube widget: http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/youtube-videos

Just search Google for "youtube widget" I'm sure there are better options out there...

AS you can see I have now choosen and recieved confirmation that I have the domain irishgolfer.ie, the site will be ready in 10 days tops, and there isnt much to see yet but I will inform you when its live, its free to use, free video which members can also upload, free classified section , free forum , free rating for courses and instructors and it will be updated daily with Irish golf news and international news, like an online magazine like golf digest ireland only without the hefty 6.50 euro cost, looking for members that wish to rate or upload news and videos if anyone is interested , many thanks, lets know , anymore ideas I can add in
