I don't think you can ever be certain of getting 40/40 as you don't know what will come up - all you can do is prepare as best you can and read over the book as there are things covered in the book that aren't on the cd.
I did my theory test in December with the aid of the cd and i practised endlessly with the cd and never ever got 40/40. But on the day i concentrated read the questions slowly and went over the answers at the end of the exam and so my amazement i got 40/40 - chuffed with myself - totally worth putting up with geek jokes for the rest of that week.

One thing is don't stress over it - It's a fairly simple and straightforward test, most of it is common sense, so even if you're not sure of the answer just use your head and logic and that will normally see you right.

Before doing mine I was going through an awful stressful time, to the point where I completely forgot about it til a few days beforehand and I hadn't done any study for it.

I was in a different country at the time and I studied the Drivers Theory Test book on the flight on the way home. I did the test and to my surprise got 40/40 which I wasn't expecting at all!

I didn't have the CD and I only studied the book for about 3 hours, so it really is doable.

And this is coming from someone who hadn't a clue about road signs, rules of the road etc.. beforehand!

I remember when I did the test about 5 years ago I had the CD and just kept on taking sample tests. Thats all I did. No question came up on the day that I had not seen before in the sample tests so I got 40/40. My friend is doing the test fairly soon. Where can you get one of those CD's?

I did my theory test in 2006 and got full marks. My sister failed the year before. It's not the leaving cert by any means but do look at the book, a good chunk of it is plain common sense. I had a question that asked when it was suitable for me to stick my head out of the sunroof!

I got the book with the questions and answers. I went through it and made a note of any questions I didn't already know. Then I went through the questions I had noted and made sure I had learnt them. Spent a day or two. Got 40/40 in the test and was finished it in a few minutes.

It's so true! 39/40 is a great result either way. Just try not to forget all you've learned! It tends to come in handy from time to time! Best of Luck with the next stage in learning to drive! Dont be afraid to come back here to ask any questions you may have.
