Im starting to organise a charity golf game to raise money for a project in Tanzania that im going on in the summer.

My question is, has anyone here ever organised one?

What I have got is a rough idea of prices and where is available, thats the easy part.

Im obviously looking at getting sponsorship. I am thinking of just sending letters to local businesses. Is that the best way of going about it?

I have never done an event that big, and I am just getting to realise how much organisation is involved in it! I would appreciate any help :)

Why not get a local golf society to help you out? They do all that you've just listed on a month to month basis!

Could save a lot of time, money and effort as societies may have a better reputation at certain golf clubs and will enable them to get discounts. Looking to organise an event at a golf club by an individual would be much harder to get.

If you'd prefer not too then scout around for golf clubs of your choice and check out group bookings/deals. If your asking for sponsorship from local companies I'd also offer them a place or two in the group booking (whether they have to pay or not is at your discretion!)

Anyway thats my 2cents on it! :D

Yes I am a member of a society, but I dont want to load everything on them! I have asked them to contact some courses for me that they use to see if they can get any better price.

I suggest that the best way to run this type of event is the way that other organisations, sports clubs etc. run 'classics'. There is a lot of spade work involved and you will need help. First you need to book time at a golf club. Then contact interested parties and ask them to enter a team(s) at whatever cost you decide. Allocate tee times as you get the entries (make sure you get the monies up front. If teams don't turn up on the day you still have to pay the club.).

This is/was a great fund raiser for the sports clubs Im involved with. With current climate not sure how many business would be willing to participate. Timing is also crucial. Late spring / early summer the best time for lots of entries but Golf club fees also higher.

Also, consider a local par three course. Not so many serious golfers but if you can do a saturday/sunday lots of families having a day out.

What we have also done is used a regular society day for a cause such as yours. Each player donates an extra tenner but the prizes are better than usual. Again, depends on the numbers your society has.

    Good Luck!

Ok, I have got a great offer from a great club. And its on the 4th May. When I got off the phone, i checked the calendar, and low and behold its a bank holiday. Now the club never said anything about the bank holiday, so I am wondering should I phone them and tell them it is a bank holiday? Or else they knew and never really have competitions on that day.
