Hey, I need some info on travelling to the UK. I lost my passport recently, and I don't have a Drivers License. I was told that a Garda ID can be used to travel between the UK and Ireland, but I'm skeptical. Has anyone done this?

I don't have time to get a passport for my proposed travel date.

    1. What airline?
    2. Have you checked the airline's website/confirmation email?

if it's "them we don't speak of", good luck.

Yeah, I know who ya mean. I haven't booked tickets yet (luckily), but I would still like to travel then, if possible. I was looking at BMI, and they said EU/EEA National ID cards are acceptable, is that a Garda card?

    Nope.

It's legally a proof of age card, not an identity card (yes, yes, I know, but that's how they've defined it). Ireland doesn't have a national ID card.

Info on getting a replacement passport. Technically you have to apply for a new one but you have to tell them you've lost the old one or it'll be delayed. The passport express service will get it back to you in ten days. If you need it faster than that, you can apply in person, bringing your ticket with you as proof you need it quickly but they'll probably charge you an extra €50 for doing it as a rush job. As well as your ticket/flight details, you'll need to have all the stuf you need as though you were applying for a first passport (long form of birth cert, the form stamped by a Garda, the photos, etc).

If you are really pressed, you can use ferry and train. Not as easy, but you don't run into the same ID requirements.
