The most depressing day ever?

Today is apparently so depressing it has been predicted that up to a quarter of workers would call in sick.
Cliff Arnall, a former psychology academic at Cardiff University, claims that there are six factors that combine to make today the ultimate of all bad days:

    Lousy weather
    Post-Christmas debt
    Failed New Year's resolutions
    Time elapsed since Christmas festivities
    Motivation levels
The need for something to look forward to

Basically what this means is that most of us won't have been paid since before Christmas, the credit card bills are looming and the next national holiday is ages away - 82 days to be exact.

According to Dr Arnall, "The credit crunch means today is potentially the most depressing Blue Monday we have had," and with today's news of tax payers funding another bank bailout I'm not going to argue with him.

Dr Arnall advises that the best way to overcome Blue Monday is to "put on a fun DVD, get some friends over for something to eat or call someone they've put off calling for months or years."

I don't find today even remotely depressing. I haven't been paid since before xmas, and I won't be for another 2 weeks, but i've still a few quid to play with and the CC is clear of any debts. Plus I went on a date with a hot girl last night. Good times. :pac:

Guess it is depressing! I came home from school at 9.35 because I was sick, both in the head and my stomach.

It snowed here! (For about 5 minutes :P)

Thousands of innocent people are being killed in Gaza, but yeah today is really bad cos I'm a bit cold and I wont get paid for another week so I'll have to do without my gold plated caviar and fabergé eggs.

    Oh woe is me

why do people insist on bringing Gaza into every single thread. It's not relevant. STFU about Gaza take it to the Gaza thread

No, internetz is for serious business. We need to discuss it in every thread.

There's a god way to deal with this:

    Lousy weather:
It's always crap in Ireland. Did you think it was going to be nice today? You deserve to be depressed.

    Post-Christmas debt:
Maybe your mother in law didn't need that tea towel with the gold stitching around the edges after all...Buy her a fork next year instead.

    Failed New Year's resolutions:
Don't make any in the first place.

    Time elapsed since Christmas festivities:
    It's a **** holiday mostly.

    Motivation levels:
I didn't want to do anything today so I geared myself up for that.

The need for something to look forward to:
    I'm leaving the country soon.

So the only way to deal with today is you need to stop making silly promises to yourself for the sake of it, get a warm hat for the cold weather, don't have any desire to do anything and take it easy, buy cheap presents for christmas in future and leave Ireland this year.

As Billy Connolly used to say, there's no such thing as bad weather - only the wrong clothes.

    Jesus. Forgot about this.

Ironically, I went home sick from school.

Partly because I didn't do ANY homework

    No. You shut up.

Today is the day most people apply for a divorce.
It's the first Monday after the kids go back to school and either parent decides to spend one last Christmas with the family before leaving/ throwing the other half out.

We have 8 people in our little department in work on only one called in sick today.

Don't think it's an overly depressing day.... Friday is payday and I'm sure I'll feel alot more depressed when I see my payslip!!!

[the next national holiday is ages away - 82 days to be exact]

But we're in Ireland, so we've only 8 weeks to the next bank holiday and then another only 4 weeks later (involving chocolate) Woohoo!!! Also the clocks go forward in only 7 weeks, so we'll have longer evenings soon enough. And, we've only 12 days left of January and then it's Spring (ish)!

Actually it was a pretty good day for me. :)

I managed to get up early for once and make it to work before 9am. Add to that someone came to my desk a few hours ago and gave me an unexpected bonus. Awesome!

I don't mind ranting. As long as it's not about Gaza.
