White shoes - fashion ruling required

Yes, I'm deliberately avoiding the "E" word.

I need some road shoes. The choice is black and white.

If I get white shoes, can I wear black shorts? Or is there some sort of Euro* shoes-up ripple effect where I'll end up in head-to-toe cyan looking like some (very slow) peloton wannabe?

Is there a minimum power output required for the wearing of white shoes?

Will I need to remove my mudguards?

Obviously this is only a summer concern, since I wear overshoes in winter.

I'm also deeply traumatised by Lance's black socks, but that's another thread.

    * doh.

This is sage advice. Unless you are going to the disco, in which case, white shoes go with nothing.

    I have a simple rule:

    White shoes = good
    Black shoes = Lance (bad)

Yup definitely White ! Mind you, white shoes and black tights can look a bit ..erm..strange, especially if ya got large feet ! So overshoes are a must with tights and white shoes.

Nah, it looks the biz. Not that you would be going anywhere without overshoes in this weather.

My white shoes are a bit grey at the moment. Can you put Sidis in the machine and expect them to come out undamaged?

I don't think I'd chance it. The mesh is tricky to clean by hand though I'd grant you.

Before risking it, get a pack of Killeen Eliminator Duo, its a white sponge which works a treat without any washing or chemicals, even removes ketchup from the ceiling

Well our little one always shakes her ketchup bottle like mad before using it, just doesn't always check to see if the top is open ! ....as for the wine stains on the ceiling, blame my wife !

I wouldn't fancy sticking them in the wash, maybe get some shoe polish and wipe them with a cloth?

Also, stumbed across this yesterday while looking at shoes, the ultimate euro accessory or going too far?:

    SIDI Heated Sole

Would have been nice on saturday, my shoes are still wet.

Stuff them with newspaper. Drys them out in no time.

I'm sensing more animosity here over black shoes V white shoes, than than over Campag V Shimano. We argue the real issues on this forum, that's for sure.

Black Shoes = Timeless Classic, never out of fashion
White Shoes = Fashionable now, but you'll look back in a few years time and wonder what were you thinking

There's really two questions here... white shoes, or the choice between the black and white sidis... Regardless of where you fall on the white shoes debate, sidi's shouldn't come in any other colour at all, so you should most definitely go with white.

Jiff (or Cif as the euro heads call it now) works ok for cleaning white shoes -mesh bit is a bitch to clean though

    Is.

    I've got the Blue/Titanium ones.

If you are going for white don't get Sidi Genius, go for the Sidi Ergo 2, or something by DMT.

Shamano SH-WR80 have a nice design however they are a lady specific shoe.

Sidi's should only come in Black....White Sidi's are like white socks, someday you're gonna regret them

The only time I regret my white Sidis is when I'm not wearing them.

Just to follow up... I'm not entirely sure what I mean by that last statement.

    Black SIDIs?

Maybe its just me, but I feel like I'm wearing school shoes if I wear black shoes in sports. I wouldn't run in black boots and I wouldn't cycle in black shoes. It's like wearing socks with sandals or brown shoes with a black belt, the list of fashion faux pas.

If I had my way (and the money), I would be wearing those DMT Mag Force ones.

Am faced with a similar question except I'm looking at the following:
    Either Black/ White Sidi's

or these that have caught my eye:

Diadora Team Racer Carbon Road Shoes
    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/LargeImage.aspx?ModelID=25913&FileName=25913.jpg

The Diadora fit a little better (I seem to fall between the Sidi sizes), but am not so sure they will last as long, although I have a pair of DMT's that are wearing well after 3 years of moderate/ heavy use (I'm fairly light on footwear and I don't need to replace them, but I have a CRC voucher burning a hole in my wallet).

Most of my thights/ bibs are black so I think the Grey is a compromise in the euro debate.

    Apt, I thought
As for equipment, it seems that white will continue to set the tone, especially in terms of bikes and cleats.

I assume they mean "shoes" when they say "cleats".
