I've been lurking this forum for a while and some of the stuff ye discuss is pretty interesting. I'd like to understand more of what ye're talking about and maybe get involved but I have no background as far as investments and markets are concerned...

So can anyone recommend a good book to look for to give me the basics of the stock market?

Or a website where I can get started (preferably free)?

    Thanks guys...

Hey im in the same boat, would love to get involved. I touched a bit of the subject in college but not enough. I need a good book to start of with the basics and learn from there.

I heard it should take over a year to start of playing with real money and make some profits.

Also, maybe read The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham

And do a search for books in this forum. Should get you started.

it kind of depends on what kind of investor you are, if you want to get into technical analysis then id advise a book by John J Murphy "technical analysis of the financial markets" TA is the study of charts, price and volume to decipher where the markets will move in the future.

id also recommend "reminisces of a stock operator" despite it almost being a 100 years old it is still widely considered as the best book going

another book is "come into my trading room" by alexander elder
