Irish Rail Pricing Structure and distances between Stations

Just wondering if anyone has some information on the pricing structure of Irish Rail? I have checked online and it only gives the fares.

I travel frequently to Carlow and its was €16.50 return (Haven't been since the fare increase) and is 83 km from Dublin.I also travel to Templemore a bit infrequently and was €38.50 (now €42.50)and is 141km from Dublin. Over Double the price yet not double the distance. I have taken the distance from google maps so the distances are by road - train distances would be different and possibly shorter.

I would be interested if anyone has information on cost per km of the journeys? I have checked Platform 11

Alternatively if anyone knows/has some information on the distances between the stations in ireland i will check the information and do the analysis of a cost per km if others are interested?

The pricing structure places a premium on services that have a high frequency and the benefit of the higher speeds attainable on the Dublin-Cork line.

Hence fares to stations between Dublin and Cork, Limerick City, and Mallow-Tralee have higher prices than stations on the Waterford, Galway and Mayo lines as they travel over substantial amounts of single track en route thereby increasing the risk of delays and also have fewer services.

NO, it's a known fact that discounts are given on less well used lines.
