    Hi,
Are there any el-cheapo STBs out there that will work with the Irish service available to purchase.
MPEG4 DVD players can be purchased for €29. I'd guess that a DTT STB isn't much more complicated and seeing as it doesn't have any moving parts or the same power requirements are there any STBs available for purchase under €50.

Not yet. Probably under €45 by the Autumn.

    To answer the question.

I suggest ebay.fr . Search term...... TNT HD

Order the list by price. I see them from as little as €15 on auction.

Of course check the spec of the model on the manufacturers website before getting involved if you do not understand french.

"TNT" alone or TNT numerique are no good alone. If you are in doubt post it here and someone may be able to help you.

Which is a little misleading as that auction has over 3 days left, if you check 'Completed Items' you'll see that usually the cheapest STB's go for approx 80 Euro, so you're really looking at 100 Euro delivered. Your best bet if you want something cheap is to hold out til Autumn.

No its not misleading. Yes you will pick up a TNT HD box for probably €20 plus pp if your persistent. Thats the whole idea of ebay.

Why do you think holding out until autumn will make the price of a STB any cheaper ?

France has 15 times the population of this little country. Unless there massive increase in the population and a mad rush in August to buy DTT boxes akin to the mobile phone craze, I cant see that happening. Thats not the way supply and demand works I am afraid.:)

The french sites were selling the Sagem HD box for €51 last month. They dictate, we benefit.

Most people are eBay newbies, it's always better to point them to a Buy-it-now item or a completed listing to actually show what they go for on average, I looked around for 4~5 weeks before I got a box for less than 90 Euro delivered and I'M no newbie. I basically want to give Mailman a more realistic expectation.

Going by Watty's vastly superior knowledge on this subject than mine

Now you're being more realistic, if you would have stated that originally I wouldn't have felt the need to chime in, I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist ;)
And it's a pity I missed that, that, to me, is an excellent price for a Sagem product.

Eh The Thread is entitled el cheapo STB!

I pointed out the cheapest way. Ebay France. You see its a supply and demand thing. Al these boxes are widely available in France. Thats where the trading will therefore go on second hand.

    Not Ireland, not the UK.

Why ? Because they are not in vast circulation here.

    C'est Ca.

Is there a digital signal to be received off three-rock yet? no point in my buying this from France if it will lie idle for the next few months.

That Sagem HD box was with a TNT subscription ala SkyHD. You wont find a shop listing for a Sagem HD box for less that 120eur and find it hard to get one for less than 150EUR unsubsidised

    Re the Sagem ITD81 HD

That may be so slegs. €51 does sound ridiculosly low. My french is not sharp as it once was.

There were opportunities to buy them below the €100 mark at one stage.

They are in plentiful abundance second hand anyhow.
