    Hi All,
I'm starting back at the gym and used to love running, has anyone got some tips with getting a good guide for me to use from week to week? or any help with how hard I should push and how to move up the ladder? I would love to do the 10k run in Dublin in June and maybe the half Marathon at the end of the summer? but mainly I just want to get fit again and keep myself sain as I am one of the many who just lost a job.

    thanks for any helpful suggestions

Take all the advice you can from sites like http://www.halhigdon.com/ and http://www.runnersworld.co.uk and

    1. Ease into it gradually
    2. Persevere if/when it becomes hard
    3. Run as slowly as you need to to build up time on your feet
    4. As you are doing, set achievable race goals

All the best with the job thing - stay positive,

You seem to be doing the right thing, aiming for a couple of targets not too far away (the 10km and 1/2 mara) and using a gym is a good idea in my opinion. You can't run every day, when (re)starting out.

I don't know much about detailed programs, but building up mileage using the 10% rule always seemed ok to me (ie. don't increase mileage more than 10% per week) to avoid injury.

    +1
Don't over do it at the start , 3 days a week running is loads and build up slowly. I know it took my body a few months to be able to increase training.
Gym would be great to improve fittness...

Best of luck with the goals, if your consistent in your training you will see results.
