New Carbon Fork

I know nothing whatsoever about this but am also interested in getting a new fork for my Giant Bowery, so am interested in the responses.

So far I have that there may be a difference between forks for integrated headsets and non-integrated, that some apparently "integrated" on cheaper bikes are actually not so, and that ideally you should choose a fork with similar rake if you want to maintain the feel of the bike.

Is it easy to change a fork with an Aheadset Threadless system? Is it just pop one out and the other one in?

I think I need a new fork for the Specialized Allez. I'm looking to spend about 100e to 125e and to fit it myself. What do I need to look out for when selecting and fitting?P

I think the most important thing is to get a fork with the same rake, just to keep the handeling the same. Spesh 49 - 54cm frames have 45mm rake and 56 - 61 have 43mm. Of the forks you've looked at the dedaccai might be good - 44mm rake (happy midground) and would look well with the integ. headset of the bike.

Could always look at stretching to the easton ec70 - would be ok if youre riding one of the larger frames and would quite tasty. Wiggle are usually pretty good about stuff, if you give them the length your existing steerer they'll prob cut the new one down and hop in a star nut for you gratis

Thanks CheGuedara. My Spesh is a 58 if that makes any odds.

Actually - you should buy the one that matches your team kit colors to achieve a higher euro rating.

A red bike with an orange and blue fork? It will look worse than those Bianchis that Barloworld were on

Can I ask you a question, how do you know when you need a new fork or not?

Generally you need a new fork if (1) your old one is broken because you crashed into something; (2) you currently don't have a carbon fork and want one for weight saving/vibration damping/bling.

Apart from being broken (bent, cracked in half, etc.) there's not a lot that can go wrong with a fork, it is just a solid object, no moving parts.

Are you looking for 1 1/8 forks? I mistakenly bought a 1 1/8 ITM 4ever fork a while back. Catalogue weight is 445g, carbon steerer, Alu crown, carbon fork. It cost me 70 euro off wiggle (2007 exchange rates!)

    ... though it isn't for sale ;-)

But if anyone would like me to, I'll get some photos of it and put it on adverts.ie

Should be just a case of popping one out and putting the other one in, but you'll probably need to get a crown race for the new fork.
