Ok so I would like to return to the U.S. for another holiday in a few months.... I have been to 3 states in the past and would like to hear what people's top 3 states to visit are as I might go to the most popular destination....

I do not plan on telling you the 3 I visited as people may come up with things to do in that state that I never did when I was there....

So.....what are your 3 favourite states and why??

    Thanks :)

    ones i have been

utah; southern utah is one of the most spectacular places on earth, some of american finest national parks ie zion, bryce, canyonlands, capitol reef and arches, southern utah is also close to most of northern arizona best sites like monument valley and grand canyon. salt lake city is a lovely town, the mormon sites are free to visit and they give you free tours as well, the city center is so clean and the landscape surrounding SLC is a outdoor enthusiasts dream with snow capped mountains, lakes etc

california; the quinessential US state, from big cities to beautiful coastline, majestic national parks with roaring waterfalls that fall thousands of feet to hottest desert on earth to crystal clear lakes to huge mountains to the largest living trees on earth, california has everything, san francisco is americas most beautiful city, yosemite is the garden of eden, death valley is stunning in spring.

Florida; sun, sea, beach, themeparks, what more could you want??

haven't been to alaska or hawaii, i will probably change my opinion based on these two, i bet one will get in :)

I agree with Rosie. My reasons, fantastic scenery, great for walking from 30 min paved 'trails' to camping off track with the bears.

    1. Utah (north) driving from Salt Lake City, up to Logan, skip Idaho, and then onto #2. I never stayed in SLC but found people in the smaller towns to be very friendly and helpful.

    2. Wyoming (NE corner) ie Jackson Hole, Grand Teton and Yellowstone.

    3. California, San Francisco and north of SF, only because I haven't been anywhere else in California.

From my limited experience in respect of scenery - Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan U and L, Indiana just dont compare.

On my wish list of places to visit: Kentucky, W Virginia, N York state and New England.

Las Vegas isn't a state and Nevada wouldn't be in most people's Top 3.

OP your question is almost impossible to answer. There are some that I could exclude but limiting myself to a Top 3 only will take some time to think about :)

Montana, the rockies are AMAZING!!!!!!!! And you can drive along the really high mountain passes in the summer when the snow is gone... The wildlife and the cowboys on horseback!!, just awesome....

Idaho, famous for its spuds, though i found them nothing special! Fabulous little one horse towns with antique tea shops, sleepy diners and hardware stores... just like the movies...

Washington, fabulous lakes- spectacular, but nothing like nothern Montana..

    They are my top three!
    Happy Trails!!:D

Calafornia is a must. Great cities and great scenery. IF you want beaches, sun and theme parks it has it all. It has yosemite national park for great scenery (google image yosemite) and you could take a month for the one state alone.
Alaska is huge, if you want cool scenery, go there! Anchorage is a nice town, very small. You can be in downtown anchorage and see forest down the road and snowcapped mountains closeby. It's a eskimo/russian/american town which is pretty unusual. other towns like juneau are only accessable by boat or plane, they have no road or rail network to them. If I was to go back to america i'd go back to alaska and explore a bit more.
