Just got this set in argos, reduced from €21.89 to €14.59.

I already have pushup bars and they are great, some might see them as gimmicks, but they are easier on the wrist, also you can grip them tightly which I find gives me more power. Also you can get a far better range of motion since you can have your chest going below your hands.

I never do situps but it is an interesting device, I would sooner do leg raises on the chinning bar.

The chinup bar is better than the other york one they sold, which I already have. This is because it screws out from both ends, meaning it is symmetrical, while the work on screws on one side so if you do wide arm work you have to hold one thick and one thin bar. It also has foam grips.

Skipping rope looks OK too, has foam handles and it the rope is not fixed, it can rotate in the handle.

You can get a great workout with this set, a lot better than any of the other fitness gimmicks on sale for big bucks, which usually end up as clothes horses. www.simplefit.org

EDIT: there is a new argos catalogue out BTW, and this set is €29.79 in it, lots of stuff seems to have gone up in price. But the price is €14.69 until 17th feb 2009 according to the mini sales catalogue

I got the single chin up bar there the other day, the one where it screws from one side but it was too long for the laneway. By about an inch :( Do you know if this one is smaller in length?

I held my old one up against the new one, looks about 1" shorter so it might do you. You can exchange stuff in argos easily.

That is presuming my old one and yours are the same, I did get mine in argos ages ago. My old one screws in pretty far, are you sure you had it in fully, and do you mean the bar was too long for the laneway, or the laneway was too wide? Just seems you have a really narrow laneway. You would want to paint the holders with hammerite outside.

The holding sockets look the exact same to me and the lock & holding mechanism looks the exact same to me. These things usually have large factors of safety built in.

I got one that looks like this before

Mine was york brand, this one is not and says 14.9stone.

I have done chinups with 50kg on a dip belt, so that was a total weight of over 20stone. I regularly do them with over 16stone. 13 sounds quite low as a rating.

    i am about 80kg or 13stone

i have the argos chinup bar

it can hold the weight of me and my gf at the same time and she is about 55kg

so dont worry about it not taking ur weight if ur less than 20 stone and the chinup bar is mounted properly

besides, even if ever does come off the wall,ur not gonna fall too far annyway

So to clarify, what price is this set actually now??

Price is €14.59 at the moment. There is a separate sales magazine for fitness stuff, it says "these offers are valid until 17th feb 2009"

It was previously €21.89, and when the offer is over I expect it will be back to the price in the new spring/summer catalogue €29.79.

I am also going to use my 2 chinning bars are parallel bars for doing dips. As explained here.

Was considering purchasing this pack. Mainly for the push up bars and the chin-up bar. Might do some skipping too!

Was just wondering about installation, as the Argos catalogue does not say much.

Does the chin-up bar require screws? I'm in rented accommodation, so would prefer not too have to cause any damage.

I'm guessing with a limit of 13stone that it doesn't. Hope I have guessed right.

It comes with 6 screws, each cup device takes 3 screws and the bar ends screw into them, it is telescopic. I have heard people saying they do not screw them in, but I would not advise it. If you do not use the cup receivers then the bare ends do have rubber on them though. If you tightened really hard it might last as a friction fit. If you are doing normal chinups and it gave way it might not be such a big deal, not far to fall.

A set of nike pushup handles are €18.99 on their own! http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/0107886/Trail/searchtext%3EPUSH+UP.htm
So it still might be worth getting.

If you have a hole in your attic you could stick wood across it and have the bar on 2 straps.

I got adjustable straps from this guy http://stores.ebay.ie/Handy-Straps_Med-Duty-tie-down-Straps_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ13455392QQftidZ2QQtZkm

If you cannot manage a pullup then you can lower the straps and do body rows and other stuff on the bar until you are strong enough. If you have it at the right height you can assist yourself up with your legs as little as you can, then lift your legs and lower yourself back down, this will train the full movement, so it is better than just hanging and trying to do one for weeks!. Even when strong enough there are other exercises you can do on an adjustable bar like that. You can also make gymnastic rings to use with the straps, or buy them here

Loads of other ideas here http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/shenandoah/Grunt/grunt.html

Is it not just to hold your feet down? Simple place under a door, tighten and then slip your feet under.

That what I got the impression of.

    Yep
The situp thing clamps under your door. The dial then clamps it in place, it has foam to cushion against scratches, you can see 2 holes in the photo, the bar can be moved for different positions. It just mimics somebody holding your feet. It would allow you do weighted chinups easier, i.e. holding a plate on your chest. I would sooner do L-sits on the pushup handles, and leg & knee rasies on the bar.

    cantgetright,

Try not to dig up older threads.. you'll get people's hopes up that's it's back on offer..

Only for it to be more expensive than it's original price (before reduction)! ;)
