Hi guys. ive been offered a 07 407 with 40 on the clock for 9k from a family friend. its a 1.6 diesel manual. i drive a mondeo estate and the min 1.8 petrol.

Is the 407 a reliable car and would i be likely to get much more mileage out of the diesel? cheers lads

I'm fairly sure those 1.6 diesels get huge mileage out of a tank, and it will definitly better the 1.8 petrol Mondeo. Sounds cheap, if it's a nice spec i think you would be mad not to go for it.

had 406, i loved it alot, even when people were saying they are dissaster. Never had any trouble. I heard they fixed alot of foults in 407. They are not doing same mistake. so i think it should be really really good car.

And specially when you getting a 07 for 9k.... I would even think seriuos about it m8.

If it's on Irish plates and there is nothing fishy about it then it is dirt cheap at 9k. If you stop to think about it someone else will have it gone ! If you are not interested then pass me on his phone number !!!!

407 1.6 HDi is very light on diesel, one of the most economical diesels around. And only 1.6 helps when taxing it compared to the VW 1.9 TDi, Mondeo 2.0 TDCi etc.

Have heard stories about then giving electrical trouble etc but the model is out since 04 so should be well debugged by 07. Even if it did develop a fault you are getting it so cheap you would be well covered for the repair costs. Depending on when bought it could have some mfr's warranty left on it anyway.

hi lads. well i a thinking serious of it all right. I do a lot of mileage and my 01 mondeo is hitting 115000 miles so really looking to trade up. been an 07 id love it. its navy blue but I would love to know what exactly I would be getting out of it mileage wise. I spend about 25 euro on 250 miles at the minute there or there abouts. i wonder will it pay for itself in that sense

Official mpg numbers and CO2 numbers for most cars per year of manufacture on the Sustainable Energy Ireland website www.sei.ie . Search under "Your Home" (or something like that, not logical, it used to be the category on the left of the page), and then "how clean is your car".

Might take a few minutes to find the right page, it's well hidden !

ok well according to that site. thanks by the way. the mondeo is 35 mpg and the 407 is 53.3mpg

so im saving a third every time i fill up i suppose you could say. sorry but im brutal at this

    A 2007 Peugeot 407 1.6 HDi for €9k is a no brainer.

I have that same engine in my Focus, not a single bother with it and my car has 115k km on it. Getting about 620 miles from a tank of diesel. The 407 is a bigger and heavier car but you will definately get better mileage than what you are getting from your Mondeo petrol.

A friend of mine has 70k on his '05 407 hdi without a single problem. you should get 900km+ to a tank easily enough.

I have the same engine in a mazda3, delighted with it.
