To those who read the spoilers; from the rest of us who dont want it ruined ...

Before the new season of one of my fav shows starts can I just ask that posters are very careful about details of upcoming episodes with spoilers.

Now, usually, what defines a "spoiler" is straightforward but not as much with Lost. Time and again Ive seen little details slip describing upcoming episodes (along the lines of a review of an episode already aired but then the poster might throw in a line like Eg; "but thats not gonna matter cos
    Charlie
wont be here for much longer").

Why did I spoiler out something there that 99% of Boards Losties already know?

Well I remember watching season 1 of 24 a couple of years back and going to IMDB.com. I wanted to see what else Elisa Cutebert had been in (;)) and in doing so saw the cast lineup for that first season. Anyone who's gone to the spoiler-rific IMBD will probably know what happened next, I saw that the actress who played
    Jack Bauer's wife
only lasted one season. I read this with 2 episodes to go. Ruined. Even though I hadnt gone looking for spoilers.

Lesson learned! (But worth it for the Elisa info :pac:)

This year Ive decided Im not even going to look at Lost previews or want to know which character an episode revolves around. The Fuselage website is a fantastic resource but I was far too tempted to read spoilers over there last year and it completely took away from the buzz of "whats gonna happen next?!" on the show. Even little things like t
    he return of Michael
last year would have been better had it been out of the blue.

So can we ask everyone to be careful for the rest of us (or maybe just me) who want to enjoy this season with the same tension and suspense of Season 1.
    Thanks
    :)

At the same time, too many spoiler tags is annoying. I try to avoid spoilers, but some of the things that are often spoilered are silly.

I think its a fair assumption to consider everyone having seen up to the end of season 4. I understand that some might not have seen that far yet, but thats another issue. Most of the threads on here are discussed on the understanding that people have watched the latest Sky or RTE airing. If they haven't, then they really shouldn't be reading losts threads in the first place.

Thats fair enough. Its the likes of posts in threads talking about Ep 3 (for example) that say "well Kate was looking great in this episode which is probably just as well as next week (in Ep 4) she will be revealed as Jacobs' Ma"

Obviously an extreme example there but what Im getting across is for us to respect the fact that, this season, some of us want to remain completely spoiler-free.

I think I gave out to someone before for not spoilering something and ruining it for me. Turns out it was shown in a previous episode and I just completely forgot about it. :o but yes not using spoilers sucks ass.

Is this really that big of a problem anymore though? I mean RTE/Sky air only a few days after ABC. There isn't much opportunity for these kind of spoilers to be posted in a previous episode thread. Or are you saying that no information related to subsequent episodes should be posted in previous episode threads, even after they've aired, in order to protect, say, people watching on dvd?

I agree about the Michael returning thing, although that was a decision made by the producers and ABC. It was being quite freely posted all over the internet and in tv guides, etc, and even if someone have been hiding under a rock for the summer, they still would have seen Perrineau's name in the opening credits for the first episode. Trying to treat it as a spoiler therefore would have been pointless and would have caused threads to become littered in spoiler tags.

I agree with Mellor about spoiler tags being annoying and overused sometimes. Speculation isn't a spoiler and doesn't need to be tagged imo. And real spoilers (from promos, sneak peaks, etc) should be posted in the right thread with a warning at the top. Personally I don't think major spoilers (such as relating to the season finale) should be posted in here at all, with or without spoiler tags, warnings, etc.

Re: IMDB, I had the coffin reveal spoiled for me over there. Not even on the Lost board at that. And then of course there was a few idiots who posted it over here as well.

I can't believe you just ruined that on everyone...
That was probably one of the best storylines of the season and now you've ruined it on me.;)

Can you imagine if that ended up being true? Bookmarked! :p

Again. Can Mod please police the Episode threads a bit more diligently. More spoilers were revealed in last weeks one.

And no, Basq, (with respect) I cant report it. Cos then Id have to look at the post again wouldnt I? And this time more then just the glance I gave it the first time.

I was very pissed off with this weeks spoiler as it had been there 24+ hours without anyone reporting it (I reported it after reading it but as PMF said thats kinda not the point).

Even the style of the spoiler was very sly - the poster complaining that some Sky documentary had shown on-location filming from Ep10 and complaining that Sky were idiots, and then going ahead and stating what had been shown in the Ep10 clips.

It seemed a deliberate 'its been spoiled for me so fcuk the rest of you' attitude from someone who's been here for 4 years and should know better.

A Zero-tolerance 'one strike and you're out' policy should be introduced, imo.

Jeez Louise... Get over it already! I dont see any problem in the so called 'spoilers'... ppl come on make a comment or a 'theory' or 'idea' or assumptions or guesses, and its called a spoiler.

I dont get to watch the episodes until sundays unlike some ppls here that see them before but there's never really anything spoilerific or in the wrong thread... thats just my honest opinion!

Ive been reading the lost threads for few months now and the only time something was 'spoiled' on me was the talk of the sky one thing.

To be fair, mods can't monitor the forum 24/7. They're dependent on users to report this stuff. I always report spoilers in episode threads when I see them but I missed the recent one. I seriously doubt it was intentional on the poster's part. That Sky One documentary has caused a lot of problems this season.

It's the collective responsibility of everyone posting in here to not post spoilers without tags/warnings, etc and to report them when they see them. But allowances have to be made for people who post spoilers by mistake. I wouldn't agree with a one-strike policy.

Compared to some of the other tv forums on boards, the Lost forum is pretty spoiler-safe with plenty of warnings before any spoiler discussion. But it's always a risk no matter where you go. I've seen casual posting of spoilers on The Fuselage and that place is like a police state!

Well I disagree wholeheartedly. People are entitled to give theories of course but they should refrain from using information that is in a recent episode yet to air on TV. It's simple courtesy. It's the same on the pro wrestling/UFC boards. If you've seen an event before others have then you don't go and give away the results and ruin it for others.

I think anyone who gives away spoilers should be banned for a week at least. Maybe then they'll learn. I severely limit my use of this board just so I don't find out important snippets of info.

The great thing about Lost is finding out information along the way and not being told it in advance by some would-be Columbo.

    .

well you obviously didnt read/understand what i wrote as I only get to watch it on TV i dont watch it beofre its aired!

The ban is a silly idea because the snippets of info are all in the relevent episode threads and if u havnt seen that episode then u shouldnt go into that thread!

there is limited out of thread discussion on pre tv showing info.

The problem though which you're not realising is people giving away spoilers from promos from future episodes that haven't been seen by people who have viewed the latest episode, and who simply wish to comment on info given out from the recent episode.

I'm fairly new to all this and, particularly with LOST, I like watching the new episodes without knowing what's going to happen in them.

    However........

The individual episode threads seem to be pretty well signposted to me and my advice would be based around common sense.

Don't even open threads for episodes you haven't seen yet.

Same here, fairly new to this posting in the Lost forum. I came here to get a bit of clarification on the matter, though I'm still a bit nervous about posting potential spoilers. In the matter of factual (spoiler) information relating to episodes that have not aired yet, even in the US, is it sufficient to go to that episode thread, DECALRE YOUR INTENTIONS TO POST SPOILERTASTIC INFO, then post away?

Even then, Im worried that Im spoiling it (funnily enough) for people, as in my spoiler could go further than I let on.

Hmmm, I suppose another question is how do I warn away people from spoiler info without hinting at the nature of the spoil?? for example: This spoiler is about an actor that is leaving OR I read about a location they are filming in now, etc.

Ive just noticed that a Mod had to remove a huge spoiler from the thread on Episode 15 (Wednesday just gone episode).

Could we please have a bit of cop-on over the next week please.

If you want to ruin 15 weeks of viewing a show only to skip to the last page then:

    a) why watch it in the first place, and
    b) please fuuck off to the darkUFO site

    Thanks.

    Love

    PMF

PS - thanks Bond 007 for catching that one before I saw it ;)

glad i didn't read that spoiler so, sounds like it was a big one! i actually read the first word of it but decided not to read the rest, thank ****. hopefully everyone is extra vigilant this week with spoilers, season finale only comes round once a year, nothing worse than having it spoiled.
