discovery suspected diesel problem

an 03 discovery series II diesel came into work with starting problems and a noisy fuel pump on startup. i we changed the fuel filter and told the owner to see how that went, herd nothing back for a couple of weeks till it stopped altogether. the fuel pump was gone, a common fault the rover dealer said. we changed the pump then it kept stopping on a journey. it is now hard to start when left for any time. a good flow of diesel is getting to the engine.

has anyone ever come accross this type of problem.

Heard a few stories of diesel problems with these engines if they were being run on green diesel, injector pump issues mainly, supposed to be something to do with how green diesel is refined, but injector pump problems wouldn't necessarily give those symptoms, (and of course no body would be using "tinted diesel" in their jeep, now would they )

Sounds like it could be drawing air some where

It could be the leak off on the injectors take off the leak off pipes one at a time and check for fuel being pumped out through the top of them .
If you have fuel coming out then you need to rebuild or replace them.

if the tank was left run low then you might have sucked up crap and partially blocked the fuel sender on the fuel tank
some of them have little mesh filters on in the fuel tank and they get blocked up.
