Heroes Season 4 - Reboot?

We heard the "We can fix this..." comments after Season 2, so should we believe Tim Kring when he says the same thing 12 months later?
Sci-fi TV show Heroes is returning to its roots in a bid to turn round falling audience figures in the US.

Creator Tim Kring said series four will start "pretty much from scratch", after fans criticised a lack of direction in the second and third series.

US television network NBC says it is committed to Heroes, which starts its fourth season in the US on 2 February.

But primetime president Angela Bromstad admitted it may have taken on too much "in terms of characters and stories".

The first series of Heroes, about a group of individuals who have extraordinary abilities, such as regeneration, the power to fly and telepathy, launched in 2006.

It won a Golden Globe and a People's Choice Award for favourite new TV drama. It was also nominated for eight Emmys, although it failed to win any.

But series two of the show split fans, with many complaining about a lack of pace and poor storylines. In the US, viewing figures dipped from a peak of nearly 14 million to just over 11 million.

Series three slumped even further, with audiences of 8.5 million - leading media magazine Entertainment Weekly to run a story headlined: "Heroes: Five Ways To Fix It".

In the UK, Heroes is shown on BBC Two, where it has also seen a dip in viewing figures. The opening show of series three drew 4.3 million people, while the final episode which was watched by just 2.24 million.

Kring told US magazine TV Guide about the fourth series: "There is almost nothing that the audience needs to know from the previous volume in order to follow the storyline."

    Ah yes.

    Season 4.

Watch in awe as Sylar loses and has to regain his powers... watch as he meets someone claiming to be his real father.

If it's a reboot, then it's just so they can go though all the same bad storylines all over again.

I think S4 should have time travel - the kids love that! And maybe we can have characters struggling to decide if they're good or evil: wouldn't that be interesting? Especially if they changed their mind every episode!

Most of all, they'll need to save the world. Again. 'Coz that's what heroes do...

And dont forget to hire american actors to play foreign roles and give a shout out to sufferers of the latest natural disaster

It will be interesting to see how they do this. I wouldn't put it past them starting with a recap of the last 3 seasons then cutting to Peter waking up, in his nurses uniform and bangs of course, next to a dying Charles Deveaux:

"Man, that was a crazy dream..."

    The ultimate cop-out

Then they could just go all George Lucas: show all of series 1 but add in a few CGI animals, replace Isaac with an annoying Jar Jar Binks animation, "Meesa need da heroin booba" and have Greedo shoot Mohinder first...cuz no one likes him anyway.

They are all terrible ideas (which makes them all the more likely to be used) but I think they are far too original for the writers. What'll probably happen is that Hiro will go back in time and change something that will fúck up the whole something else in the current timeline and cause (surprise, surprise) the destruction of the world. Then the heroes in the past will have to fix his fúck up to save the world.

The way Heroes is going (gave up midway through Season 3 - was basically a wasted hour every week) makes me question if it really was ever good. I was never an obsessive fan of it - season one was entertaining, if nowhere up to the standard of Lost or others. By the time I quit it had become a painfully po-faced and ridiculously complex / confusing slice of nonsense. What they need to do is to stop being so damn serious, be more playful, stop piling on conspiracy after conspiracy and absurd contrivances/twists. The initial ideas of the characters were interesting - super powers acting as inconveniences as well as useful tools to save the world (although there was more than enough world saving by the end of season one).

But now Heroes is a silly, messy and unwatchable show. Fine, reboot Season 4 if it is felt to be necessary, but the only novelty Heroes had going for it - an original concept for television, which could have built up an interesting mythology and characters - has long since expired. It is one series which really should be put out of its misery.

When the first season ended I thought I heard that there was going to be a whole new cast of heroes in season 2.

Obviously that didnt happen so I think thats what they should do.

well ye, i read that article as well and i dont belive a word of it. "you dont have to have seen a previous heroes to know whats going on" - bollox i say.

The only way for that to be true is to buther every single charactor EVERY chacractor one by one and then whoever is doing the killing can kill themselves in the last episode.

But if you where really going to make it s "you never have to have seen a heroes before to know whats going on" you would annonce that heroes is cancelled. And just make a up a new show name and run with that because it will clearly have aboustly nothing to do with the last 3 seasons....

I just thought the 3rd series got too "busy", heroes always worked off the twists and turns premise, but it was getting out of hand in the 3rd series. I'll give it another chance though

I'll give it another chance but if there's no sign of direction in series 4 then i'll give up all together
