Man I cant believe that ref did that to coleman. Thats fu***** with the mans legacy. 30 secs to go when shogun threw that knee and it was stopped it should have been restarted in the same position.
Basically the guy cheats and then gets rewarded for it cause the ref is a stupid c***

Fair play to coleman hes a legend in my eyes, he looked beaten after 2 mins, showed some amazing heart. he would have won a decision because he defo get the second and third rounds until that messing. hopefully he gets a rematch

I thought the knee was illegal at first glance, and the ref obviously thought so too. But Shogun immediately protested that he'd hit the shoulder / chest with it, and watching the replays that does seem to be the case. I'm unsure whether or not this is illegal- Sherdog seems to think it is? But then Hendo was kneeing Franklin in the leg area in their fight when they were on the ground.

My take is that you could make an argument that Coleman won round two and was winning round three until Shogun caught him with the uppercut. Even though he was bone-tired he was getting the vast majority of his takedowns and keeping top position. The Coleman of old would have absolutely crucified Shogun from there, as Rogan said it would have been a 'death sentence' in the old days.

I don't know if the fight was stopped too early or not. Coleman was hurt to some degree since the first round, but mostly he was just fatigued I think. As the ref rushed in you could see him turning to grab Shogun's leg or get a single leg, seems like he was still defending intelligently, if a little sluggishly.

Overall I thought Shogun was incredibly dissapointing. After round 1 Coleman was dead on his feet literally swaying in front of Shogun and he couldn't finish him- And Shogun is supposed to be an elite striker facing a guy at the twillight of his career. I know this was first fight back after a lay-off and coming back from injury, but I if this is him at 100%, as he said after his fight, then I don't think it bodes well for his future prospects.

I think it was right to stop it after the uppercut - its just that when he stopped it after the knee whether it connected or not, the fight should have been restarted in the same position, because standing it up gave shogun a huge advantage.

shogun looked pretty poor, but you know coleman caught him a lot with that left jab, and he was catching him right on the button - although they werent knockout blows they would fairly slow you down, and he must have eaten 6 or 7 of them. Hes lined up to fight chuck now, but theres no way he has the defence or the chin to take a straightner from chuck!

ok - first it was not an illegal knee - the ref made a mistake, it clearly was not a knee to the face, so shogun was not cheating

second coleman did not win round two by any stretch of anyones imagination (even the fer who gave franklin the fight 30-27 wasnt that blind)

third, while if coleman was in mount or something, leaving them down wouldve been to his disadvantage, the position coleman was in relative to shogun was not an advantageous position so he was right to stand then up based on his mistaken call of the knee thrown as ot was to colemans advantage to get up from there (but wrong for not taking a point and only giving a warning)

yes coleman shown great heart and was admirable for his desire to want to continue and yes rua was terrible but seriously, whay fight were you watching?

it was a great first rounf. everyone knew that if it went any further, both fighters would get tired but coleman did very well.

i do however think the ref was a tad hasty on the stopage,, yeah coleman was hurt, but ffs the guy is a pro, a split second after the ref jumped in, coleman moved for what would have been shoguns legs. he would have lasted the distant and lost the split decission ???

Have to disagree on a few things - aggression, takedowns and octagon control are what they score you for, and in round two coleman got a number of takedowns, while he didnt do much on the ground, he had some control there, and he landed a good few left jabs. Shogun might have rocked him a few times but i definately would have given him the second round. Either way whether we disagree it could easily have been given to coleman by the judges. How can a ref possibly justify giving franklin 30-27. It all comes down to what angle your watching the fight from what the ref is bias towards. Its very easy to follow one fighters perspective in a fight and not see what the other guy is doing as much

I dont know how you can say standing it up is advantageous for coleman, because he is at home on the ground, shogun couldnt kick him and punches to the back of the head are illegal so it would have been far easier to last another 30 secs or whatever from that position. Never mind the fact that shogun obviously has better standup. Ask yourself this, where would coleman say he wanted the fight? definately not standing
