    From the Wilkinstown website:
    WTSC 10m Airgun Open

    January 17/18 2008

    WTSC, Wilkinstown, Co.Meath

    Five Details:
    Saturday 17th 1400
    Sunday 18th 1000, 1230, 1430, 1630

    Four competitions:
    10m Air Rifle Men
    10m Air Rifle Women
    10m Air Rifle Juniors
    10m Air Pistol

The Junior's match will be shot concurrently with either 10m Men or 10m Women's air rifle, and will consist of the first forty competition shots in those matches. Air pistol does not as yet have a junior section or classes due to the numbers involved.

Entry fee is €15 (€10 for juniors and students)

There are only 25 slots available in total (one hospital bay is being reserved on each detail) and four competitions, so pre-booking is highly important. All bookings should be sent by email to Secretary@wilkinstowntargetshootingclub.org; or by SMS or phone to 0857747546; or by posting a comment here or on the Bebo page or by PM on boards or... well, you get the idea. Contact myself (if you contact Geoff he has to pass it on to me and someone else may get your slot beforehand by coming direct to me). Be advised that serveral people have already booked their details - only three slots are left on the Sunday. If more slots are required than are available, additional details may be run on Saturday.

Prizes will be given out for first, second and third in each competition, and for first, second and third in each class in air rifle; there will be a spot prize of €100 for any 100/100 series shot in the match; all medals will be awarded at the club's Medals Night, and certificates will be awarded on the day.

That air pistol is treating you very well Sparks. Bar one string there, that's pretty consistently good. Still must have a bash at the air pistol sometime.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

And that one string had three in the white, one five and two sixes. Just got tired I guess. Sat down, rested, got back up, finished much more consistently.

There is a certain pleasant sensation that comes with posting decent scores using a pistol that seems to be made from spare tractor parts, I'll admit :D Mind you, that's Glock for you, they make great air pistols :D

Martyring yourself to the cause there Sparks. :p How much is a set of grips for the IZH actually? I was looking at zara's, but the grips are too small for me. Want to try it out before I buy, but I'd have to include the cost of new grips.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

About €150ish (depending on the wood and so on) on the net IIRC, but there's no reason you couldn't make them if you like woodworking. There should be a thread on this somewhere in the forum though... yup, here you go, rrpc found a guy in hungary who'd be worth checking with.

Interesting. I'll keep it in mind so.

I still have a grip I got for my IZH before I got the P44 - still mint. Got it from that bloke in the US. I'll PM the details (posting on my iphone now)

Nice shooting BigRed and Sparks. Might we see you having a go at the louder stuff now that you're over the five hundred mark? :D

How many have you got entered in the AP60?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,038 ✭✭✭✭Sparks

RRPC, I already have my Glock 46m, how much louder do I have to get? :D
And no, my kit-buying days are temporarily suspended until the engagement ring is paid for, and the next item on the list is a box for the izzy anyway. It'll be a while before I can put together the cash for anything else.

Once our beloved Minister signs his new laws into force, I'll be placing my order. In the meantime, I suppose I can use the old IZH35 that ye have, even if the grip is like some piece of scrap lumber. I see a Spring Std. Pistol coming up?

You're not limited to the IZH, there's a Pardini and possibly a Walther as well. The Pardini requires a bit of getting used to because it doesn't like being dirty and needs a well locked wrist to function properly.

Well congratulations to both of you

There's a vote of confidence in the future if ever I heard one :)

You don't need to spend money (other than on ammo and entry fees - as per my post above).

Great to know the offer is there - 'try before you buy' is exactly what I need to do. Not sure about the Pardini - sounds a lot like the missus ;):D;)

We've lost a few this morning to the bad roads and the 'flu, so right now it stands at:
    AR40 7
    AR60 12
    AP60 7

Most of this morning's detail was wiped out by flu:
    Club|Shooter|Match|1|2|3|4|5|6|Total
    Comber|Leslie Fagan|AP60|85|82|80|84|90|80|501
    DURC|Tommy Vivian|AR60|87|85|81|85|75|47|460
(Tommy was hammered in the last string when he ran out of time with 4 cards left unshot :( )

Full detail on right now though.

I was having some fun with an IZH today, so may well borrow an air pistol and shoot a couple of competitions. Once I got my head around it and developed myself a routine, I shot myself a card of eighty, so that'll do me to get started, and I still wasn't settled and sighted in properly.

That'll definitely do to start! Mind you, if you do buy a new one, you're going to have to dremel the grip a fair bit, the pistol you were using had been tackled by a shooter who's about your size, so it was a close enough match already. But it's not exactly rocket science so long as you don't try to do it all in one go - it's very much a cut-a-bit, shoot-a-lot, repeat-until-perfect sort of cycle. And keep some plastic wood handy in case you over-dremel :D

I tried that P44 as well at the end of the day and put 20-30 shots through it. To be honest, while it's a sweet action and the trigger shows just how broken-glass-rough the Izzy's one can be, I just didn't like it. Too lightweight, I couldn't convince it to stop bouncing around so much. I guess the tractor has an advantage there :D

To be honest, the grip didn't fit me, too narrow, squeezed the hell out of my hand. If the palm shelf could be moved down however, the other dimensions were nice. Might be forced to have a poke at the air pistol next time there's a match on anyway.

I liked that pistol, found it sat pleasantly in my hand, didn't weigh on my wrist, pointed well and stayed steady. Would have liked to run a few shots through it actually, see whether paper results were similar to how it actually felt.

Eh, maybe the *next* next time so. :p Going to be up all night writing an essay as is for tomorrow, and same for next monday, so probably can't spare time, but I'll see how I'm fixed on wednesday evening and whether there's a pistol I can nab.

One last photo, of John's pistol case, which is frankly the most utterly awesome bit of home-made kit I've seen in a long while :D

    dsc00749a.jpg

Yes, those are footplates it's made out of, and yes, those are homemade latches, and yes, that's a homemade handle, and good grief yes, it's exceptionally tough - the thing has to be at least as strong as a Peli case (if a bit heavier).
