Songwriters club, any interest?

I am not sure if a song writers club already exists, I have had a quick look at the socs website and cannot find mention of any such soc.

Would there be any interest in such a society? I envisage it as a forum for creativity, where people can get together to create, collaborate and even perform unique work through the use of workshops, outings etc.

If you have any interest or know of anyone interested in writing songs, perhaps you might tell them about this post.

    Many thanks

    k

You should look at doing something collaborative between writers soc and music soc. I don't think you'd get too many for songwriters soc by itself, to be honest.

I think we'd need a few more to make a proper soc

    Forming a new Society
When applying for recognition as a new society you will need to submit the following:
    1. Aims of the society
    2. A programme of projected events
    3. A Constitution. (see template which you can personalise for your society)
    4. proposed committee names, student id’s and contact details.
    5. A list of fifteen students with ID numbers who support and approve of the formation of
the society (they do not necessarily have to be involved or intend to be involved in the
    activities of the society)
The basic requirement for recognition as a Society is a commitment to activity that
contributes to the community life of the students of the University. It is expected also that
the proposed activity will enhance the reputation of the University and that the role of the
proposed Society is not carried out by an existing Society. The society must be non-
discriminatory and in keeping with the ethos of the University policy on equality in student
    life. (Equal opportunities Policy)
In the case of a proposed Society, the application is firstly submitted to the University
Societies Committee A representative of the proposed Society may be invited to make a
presentation on the application to the University Societies Committee. The Committee then
makes a formal recommendation of acceptance or rejection of the application to the
Student Services Committee. The decision of the Student Services Committee is conveyed
to the applicant by Riona Hughes, Societies Officer, Student Services, Áras na Mac Léinn.
A maximum grant of €200 is available for provisional societies for their first year, which is
allocated according to the schedule of allowances. An application for recognition usually
takes about two months to process.
Provisional societies you will get webspace on www.socs.nuigalway.ie and will be expected
to up date all sections on their webpage.
A provisional society may also have a table on both societies’ days and avail of all society
    office facilities and equipment.
A provisional society will be expected to submit a treasurers and secretaries end of year
    report.
Additional Society information and Health and Safety guidelines are available to download
in the Handbook section on the Society Website..
Gaining Full Recognition: On the completion of one calendar year as a provisional society
you can submit a request to the USC for full status. Include details of activities carried out
during your year as a provisional society plus events planned, number of members, current
committee list and a brief outline of why you feel your society should be granted full
recognition. Also include a copy of your constitution. A representative of your society may
be asked to attend a USC meeting.
A society may nominate themselves for the Best new society award during their provisional
year and also during their year as a fully recognised society.

There you go. 15 signatures? No bother.

I'd definitely be interested. No soc in the college really appealed to me that much but this one would.

If I got good traffic on this post and plenty of responses, I (we) could definately take it forward but otherwise no.
