Anyone got a shortwave TX?

Hi, I used to operate a small shortwave station in the 80s from Tallaght and the radio bug has bitten again:rolleyes: Has anyone got an old valve shortwave TX looking for a new home? I'm looking for low-power so something with 807 in the output would be sufficient. Thanks!

Mods, delete this if it breaks any rules, I'm not looking to get banned or anything.

If you have a licence and transmit according to licence that's fine.
    Licences
PMR :Taxi, Quarry, Security and similar licenced users.
    Radio Amateur/Wireless Experimenter/Ham
    Marine
    Aircraft
Community Radio on Band II VHF/FM
FWALA: 3.6GHz and 10.6GHz Wireless Broadband
MMDS available: (as used by SCTV, not UPC/Chorus/NTL) 11.7GHz .. 12.5GHz Digital TV
"Deflector": PAL UHF Analogue. No new ones, ends this year.
    DTT: RTE & Boxer only
    DAB: RTE only
    VHF/FM: Commercial Radio
    Radar: Aviation authority only
Point to Point Microwave links: ETSI approved gear and prove a need.
Satellite Earth Station: TV broadcasters and ISPs

RTE FM Radio and an analogue TV doesn't use a normal Comreg licence.

    Licence Free
    • ETSI/CE marked un-modified CB for the Irish Market, unmodified . It can have any size vertical, but a Yagi/Beam is forbidden (Mobile Whip, Rubber Duck, Silverstick, Moonraker and Discone all OK)
    • PMR446 unmodifed with original built in aerial.
    • Video Senders CE mark 2.4GHz only
    • WiFi 2.4GHz / 5.8GHz only
    • Toys 49MHz CE mark unmodified
    • Remote Control CE mark 27MHz
    • SRD 433MHz CE mark
    • SRD 864MHz CE Mark
    • Ultra low power FM transmitter with CE mark (like iTrip), Stereo 88MHz to 108MHz, unmodified and original power / aerial. A short Range Device.
    • VSAT (very small aperture Terminal): Two way data for Internet. Approved gear.

Any discussion or sourcing of transmitters must match one these categories.

Wow, that's some reply there Watty. You should be a moderator or something? Thanks.

Anything with an 807 deserves to be in a Museum. A 6146 seems more reasonable, though possibly vintage.

If you have a Wireless Experimenter licence expect to pay €150 for poor condition valve TX and up to €400 for a very clean WARC bands included late FT101ZD. A decent 19 set (with 807) could be €600 as it is a collector's item rather than practical.

    1978 was 30 years ago.

You'd get a brand new FT857 nearly as cheap as really good collector quality Valve TX.

Fair point about the 807 valve but radio enthusiasm isn't always logical :D in fact it's generally anything but sensible.....

Thanks for the intro Watty but I've been using this site since it opened and many others since the early days of bulletin boards, I've just 'amended' my identity for this nostalgic enquiry

I nearly bought a 1943 "19 set" 2 years ago. I prefer my old valved FT101ZD to an IC756pro for HF shack. Maybe not logical.

I'm very fond of my modern FT817ND as it is almost pocket sized and nearly does everything, so I built an 80W internal battery powered "HF linear" for it with autoband switch.

I have a friend with a lot of Collins gear (separates and Transeivers) and he might sell one. P.M. me with a name & phone number/email and I'll pass it on if you are interested.
