Does anyone know how Id register a "phrase" or a saying as a company's strapline? In the same way way McDonalds have "Im Lovin' It" or Coke had (still have?) "Coke Is It"

I think its called an "SM" rather than a TM (Trademark). Any advice as to how Id do this with an Irish company?

    Cheers

As far as I aware you can't trade mark "I'm lovin It", it's called a descriptive term and can't be trade marked.

You can use it in a trade mark sense ie use "I'm loving it"TM
but you can't actually register it.

You can put a TM after anything and say it's your trade mark but only certain things can be registered

If your words are to common you will not be able to trademark it. however if you really want to get your slogan protected place it as a part of a logo and bingo. If you need a hand PM me. Cheers Oliver

You can register a set of words as a trademark as long as it meets the criteria set out in the Trade Marks Act:

A trademark can be registered if it is a sign capable of being represented graphically which distinguishes the products or services of one business from another business (or venture, organisation etc).
A registered trademark can be words, designs, letters, numerals, smells??, colours and packaging.

Interesting that you can trademark a smell
