Amstrad CPC 6128 & why emulators needed

    Hi All,

New to this stuff. Mate of mind put a MAME emulator on my laptop and I got 1943, the old WWF game, Double Dragon, STreet Fighter 2, Space Invaders (Taito), Phoenix, but Asteroids & choplifter wouldnt work (yes, I'm that old !!).

Had a 6128 as a kid, got an emulator the other day by the name of Caprice (you go girl) but cant seem to get the games to work - some of them are listed as "Tape" so maybe I'm a bit thick but how is that supposed to work, I'd have thought I download and then try to load with the emulator (like the MAME does). Any tips. Match Day II is the game I was trying to get. (& I know theres strict rules about posting links to stuff so a subtle hint will do me).

As a general point, are there not PC versions of the games created, so you just download & play??, To answer my own question is it that the emulator is just a quicker way of getting all the games to work rather that the effort of converting each old game to pc format.

I'm only interested in games I played as a kid as (i) the nostalgia thing & (ii) I dont have the time or patience to "learn" new games. I might go mad and get Grand Theft Auto at some stage just to see what the fuss is about. My young fella is 2 1/2, I dont have any console but I'm going to hold off and get him a good one when the time comes (give it a few years yet).

Got my Amstrad Emulator working over the weeekend (WinApe seems to be the best). Also got a good few old favourites from TACGR which has hundred. The GVP/GRM or whatever its called download option seems to be best, you just need to give it a chance to load. Also not all of the downloads works (it just shows you a file path).

On one or 2 of the games I cant get past the "hackers" welcome message (often in french), on one of them it says press F1 but when I do it operates the laptop F1 or F2 and doesnt get the game going.
