I had hoped to start this here log off on a positive note, but unfortunately, and admittedly a bit stupidly on my own part, I went and got injured.

Thursday last week playing indoor football I got a knock on my knee, and it was pretty painful the next morning. It seemed to be ok, on the Sunday, so I managed to get a 6mile run in. The following day it wasn't too bad, so went for a 4mile run on Tuesday. Fast forward to Thursday 2 days ago, and I stupidly thought the knee wold be ok to play football again. Big mistake, felt it start to go again by the end of the game. Woke up Friday morning, and it was pretty sore. So managed to book myself into the Physio for Monday.

I think I should rest it this weekend to give myself a chance for when I visit the physio. I think this means my indoor career is postponed until at least after the Connemara Half. So fingers crossed the physio gives me the green light to get back into the swing of things relatively soon. I can feel myself getting a bit more frustrated as I've already missed two runs, but I don't want to inflict any more damage.

My plan is to hopefully run the Connemara Half, and break my previous Half Marathon time. My brother is running it too. He's new to getting out and running, so while I want to break my previous time, I want to enjoy the run with him.

I was following Hal Higdon's plan for the Half, before I injured myself.

In the meantime I have been cycling in and out of work, and only yesterday on the way in was it anywhere painful. It seems to only be on the bend, so cycling should be ok, but I'll wait to hear what the physio recommends.

Went to the physio on Monday evening. I was told I have strained ligaments, bruising of the bone, and a damaged bursar (sp?). I should be able to get back to running freely in a few weeks, but am to lay off the football until I can feel no pain after running.

I'm going to try 3miles on Sunday, and just take it steadily from there, and see if I have any post reactions to the running.

Hopefully onwards and upwards from here on in........:pac:

Whoah, three weeks later and only coming back to the log now. Not good at all. So I tried to go for a run that Sunday, but pulled up pretty shortly after I began with a sharp pain from the knee. Rang the physio the following Monday, and was advised to take three weeks off. Did that, but was itching to get back out. Got so involved with my lazing about, that last week, with the first few falls of snow, I took it upon myself to endure another week, of nothing.

Started back last night though, and am determined this time. Got extremely frustrated when I couldn't run, and want this now.

Did a good 4 miles last night. Nice hill to finish it off, and felt good finishing. Hoping to get a 6-7 mile run done on Sunday, but to include Knockmaroon Hill on the run. Looking forward to that :o

Next run is Thursday night, nothing major, but a nice 3miles.

Good stuff Roddy23! Hopefully the worst of the injury is behind you now. What kind of time are you hoping for in Connemara? I will be doing the half there also.

Managed to get for the run on thursday and Sunday morning. Was happy with myself on the Sunday as, took ultraman1's advice and went for Knockmaroon Hill. Also included military road on the return leg to the car. Completed just 3miles on the Thursday and 7 on the Sunday. So am hoping to get around for between 8-10 miles at the weekend.

Heading out tonight for 4miles, and then again tomorrow for 3 more.

Knee is on the mend, so happy out about that.

MarieC - the first Half I did during the Adidas Series was a disaster, so hoping to improve on that. Before I got injured would've thought I could have got about 2hr 15mins, now not so sure, but am hoping to get in and around that. I'm far from quick, but I'll finish, and will improve if I keep going the way I have been, so as long as I don't pick up any more injuries I should be alright. :pac:

Training has been going pretty good the last two weeks. I still haven't managed to get out during the week as much as I would've wanted, but the last two weekend's LSR's have been pretty good. Managed to get what one might describe as an extremely hilly run done last weekend, and it was just over 10miles. So was very pleased with that. One thing which I have noticed is that my quad's are the first thing to get tight, but I'm hoping that might have been some of the intense hills which I've been slogging up.

This weekend also managed another 10 mile run, was running with a mate for the first 6, and was able to carry on, for the final four. Am hoping that my constant struggle up Knockmaroon hill will bare me in good stead for the hills in Connemara, so next week, am hoping to get out for a few smaller runs, and hopefully manage a 9-10 run at the weekend. After that I'll take it down a notch, and hopefully will have enough in the tank to get my around the course.

After Connemara I'll be running the Bupa 10k. It was my first "proper" race almost 3 years ago, and I think I will enjoy it the most this year. A lot of my friends will be running it, and I want to break the hour mark, and feel that my training so far, albeit after my earlier injury has gone ok.

Well done with the training! Having run both the Connemara half and Bupa a couple of times each, I think you'll enjoy the Connemara experience more than Bupa, if not for the comradery, then for the great scenery.

    Three weeks to go!

12 days later and I decide to post again. Training is easier to do then write about it. :pac:

Training was going ok, until the weekend, but having gotten off the drink the last few weeks, picked up an injury last friday night playing football. So no LSR for Saturday/Sunday.

Managed to get out yesterday for a decent run; 9.5miles, and the leg is grand. Going to get out for my last LSR on saturday before the half the following Sunday. Hoping to get about 11 done. Am cycling in and out of work, and am finding it a great help, as can feel myself getting fitter all the time.

Don't know if I'm going to push on for the full in Cork in June, but am definitely going to try with the LSR's at the weekend, as it'll all be in vain if I don't. Still don't feel too comfortable by the end of the LSR's but I'm hoping that my body will get used to it. I've been looking through the other Training Log's and am taking heart from shels' log. Think he was the same weight last year as I am now. So fairplay to him, and just show's i've got to keep working at it.

2 months later after my last post, back to the log's. After completing the Connemara Half, I took two weeks off, as I was away for a bit and other things crept up. Got back into the running with a 6mile run, but stupidly thought I'd be fine, so didn't stretch properly after that. Nearly a week later, and I was still feeling the effects. Missed out on a LSR the last two weekends, but am hoping to get out this weekend. Don't know what my plan are for the Summer, and Autumn (Sprint Triathlon,Gael force and Dublin series and Marathon all look enticing) but there is a lot of other things happening right now, so as long as I can keep running, and keep my options open, I'll see how it goes.

Training for the Adidas Series and DCM 09 has begun. Running since Connemara has been a bit of a mess, but I'm confident of putting some hard training in, for the next 4months.

I'm reading the Lore of Running atm, so I'm hoping to follow one of the Novice plans from that.

Saturday - was just a short run, as I haven't been running since the Great Ireland Run. It was about 3.75miles, but even though it was only a short one, I was still stiff cycling into work come Monday.
Monday night - a slow short recovery run - 2.5miles, up by Marlay Park.

I can feel myself getting slowly back into it. Reading all the new threads in the A/R/T forum yesterday - there seems to be a great excitement in the Forum, with the DCM within everybodies training plans.

Back in the swing of things.... Had an operation three weeks ago, so only got back into the running last night. 3miles up in Marlay Park. Am heading out again this evening, same deal again. Hoping to do the 5mile run on my own, as haven't registered for it. Not too worried about the time, as It'll be my first 5mile run in nearly a month.

Have to get into some serious training over the next few weeks, as hoping to do the remaining races in the Adidas Series, and from there see if how far I am from completing the Dublin Marathon. As it's the 30th year this year, it would be a dream, but if I can't, get my mileage up in time I'd definitely do a Spring Marathon. But we'll see how the training goes in the meantime.

Having not run for the best part of 5weeks, went and entered the Lakeside 10k run in Blessington on 19th September. I've not been good this Summer at all with my discipline, but I'm going to make a proper effort this time, to get out 3-4 times/week. I'm thinking about doing the Seville Marathon after reading HM's review in the Marathon's thread. It would also be a great excuse to get away with the OH over Valentine's day as it's on Feb 14th. So I'm hoping to book my flights before November, and ramp up the training over the Winter months. It all sounds fairly optimistic, but from reading the training logs of other runner's leading up to October 26th, I'm annoyed with myself that I let my training slip so badly.

But as the title says Onwards and Upwards....

Last few weeks, training has been going a lot better. Ran the Lakes 10k on Saturday - was a brilliantly organised run. Would recommend it to anybody. Managed to get out last night for a slow run to loosedn the legs again. Planning another 3miler tonight, and then a long run on Saturday hopefully 7miles.

Hoping to do the Rathfarnham 5k on October 4th, and the Donadea 10k the following weekend. Haven't felt this happy about getting back into running for a long while.
