Can you change courses if you fail your first year of College?

My brother hates his course where he is. He gets really upset with himself, saying he made a huge mistake. I keep trying to comfort him saying he can somewhere else and studying somthing else, but he doesn't believe me.

Can you help? Even if he fails, can't he start a different course somewhere else? Or does it go on a type of record?

Yes of course he can start a different course the next year. But he will be subject to tuition fees that year! He will have to apply through the CAO too (closing date February 1st) although there might be a way he can transfer within the same college.
