It did! What is this thread about?

The new ad for Charleville cheese is a railway themed ad based around a supposed Charleville station. The concept is all about why the train regularly broke down at Charleville. The ad is pretty crap.

Being in the business to a degree, I can confirm that it was actually shot on a preserved line in the UK with a UK crew. However the ad was edited here.

I assume that the station in Charleville opened in 1849 like the Mallow one. Still a cute little advert though, probably ripped off from something else.

Whether you like the ad or not its a fairly effective one from a marketing point of view.

i think the ad is very good but havent they heard of the RPSI in Charleville? With very little effort it could have been authentic and helped a good cause., instead we get a BR standard 4 tank hauling BR standard coaches....

Is Charleville cheese still made in Charlieville or in England like some of the other cheeses (Kilmeaden, the fillet of Irish chedder is made in London I thnk)..

Another thing is how can you have an Irish "cheddar"?

This is one stupid thread alright. I am not proud to have kept it going.

It was made in Kilmeaden Co. Waterford up until about 2 years ago when Glanbia ceased production there and is now produced in Ballyragget in Co. Kilkenny

why is it a stupid thread? This ad COULD and SHOULD have been made using an authentic GSWR train in Ireland.

Cheddar Cheese is a TYPE of cheese made all over the world, its a recipe if you like.

corktina, you have to admit, this thread is rather tangental.

I think its down to the strain of bacteria used in the cheese making process.

    But why ?

    It's an ad with a made-up story.

Unless of course you believe that it's historical accuracy is forever blighted by using a BR engine which only a few anoraks will ever spot ?

It's like two guys having a fight over kllingon grammar ;)

Let's face it is the responsibility of the RPSI's PR Department to make sure Ad agencies know about what is available rather than the responsibility of Ad agencies and film makers to go out of their way to use authentic Irish locos and stock. Also, I imagine it would have cost a great deal more to make the Ad on the Dublin/Cork line. :)

    ok then....history is bunk obviously

Charleville Station was remodelled five or six years ago. You can't go back in time there, the signal box is gone and the old station building is well it is the way it is which is not high enough for the platform any more.

That being said, I can't see how this belongs in C&T. It's screaming AH at me. Or half of it in Food and Drink.

i see on ITV in England there is an ad for Gunness showing guys doing Hurling and its filmed at Spurs ground White Hart Lane...not only that , the strip the guys are wearing is green shorts and white top with shamocks instead of harps for badges, and they all have red hair

No of course it isnt true but it would be the equivalent of teh cheese ad/

Okay, I'm closing this, it's off topic. I'll talk to Victor about a possible off topic thread for here but for now...please, there has to be an ads board somewhere.
