UPC analogue price increase

The price has gone up again.
When I first signed up in January '03 ago the price was €17 p.m. now it is €24.50 per month. That's an increase of over 44% and if I'm correct bi-monthly billing has been introduced in the interim too. I feel the channel selection is poorer than it was back then.
I canceled my contract because I feel it represents very poor value and am now picking up 4 terrestrial channels for free(license excluded).
Does anyone else feel the Analogue service represents very very poor value for money?
Anyone got examples of charges for a similar service abroad.

They move to UPC basic digital, it is cheaper then the analogue, and you also get the analogue bundled with it. It is only €20

You could of went with the digital value pack its works out cheaper than analogue plus you get more channels. You still get to keep analogue too and it would of reduced your bill to 20 euro a month.

The customer reps in UPC made absolutely no effort to sell this to me but I don't think I want it anyhow.
No notification in the bill that a cheaper more fully featured service is available.

I'll cancel anyhow. If I feel I need to see more channels than the four I've got then I'll try out DTT when it arrives.
Never really liked NTL as a company.

edit: thanks for the suggestions. you're more helpful than the guys in UPC and it's not even your job.

I'm still waiting for the confirmation mail I was told I'd receive within 10 minutes of the call.
I know people on support lines aren't all bad. I worked on one years ago and had to carry more than my share of less competent workmates, calming down customers who had previously come in to contact with them.

Can't say I've ever work in a call centre(I wouldn't want that job for any amount of money), I'm on the technical end of things.
But yes the call centre does seem to be the major drawback of the company, it has improved but still has a long way to go. To be fair to them there is alot of hard working people in the call centre but from reading board it still seems to be hit and miss.

ITV Ireland and BBC Ireland. Proposed channels for Boxer that don't even exist

BBC Ireland wtf? While I can see some logic to this, you just know they'll pick and mix exactly the wrong programmes.

Yeah NTL price increase is a joke.

I've cancelled my contract with them after years of loyal service.

Got a Free to Air Satellite dish instead.

    Also...

"Free to Air Channels on Boxer"
    RTÉ One
    RTÉ Two
    TV3 Ireland
    TG4
    3e
    RTE Three

Thats great!!! It will be a Great compliment to my Free to Air Satellite System.

    And also Free!!

How is the price going up when the carriage cost for most channels has gone down due to the 25% fall in Sterling

Its posted on other threads but basically UPC is becoming too dear Vs Sky and in the current climate thats not too clever !

And as for Boxer - I doubt it will be on the air within the next 2 years and I have a feeling the 'package' might be a lot different from what was planned

For the moment Freesat might become more popular in Ireland then its intended audience in the UK

Boxer DTT said it will launch its offering in January 2009. The 12-year licence will enable Boxer to operate three multiplexes (broadcasting networks) providing about 30 channels of digital TV through existing rooftop aerials. The service will debut in major cities and coverage will be extended to the whole country by 2012, when current analogue TV signals are likely to be phased out.

Yep FTA satellite is the way forward. People are even ringing/emailing me about the irish DTT. I cant give them answers. I tell them to hold off getting new aerials installed as everything is up in the air.

The so called BBC Ireland and ITV Ireland is nothing of the sort. It's simply two things:

    1) 2 BBC allocations and 1 ITV allocation are part time between Children (daytime, CITV, Cbeebies, CBBC) and other channels such BBC3 & BBC4.

    2) They want to combine several BBC/ITV channels part time. BBC/ITV may not permit it.

    From Boxers application:
Furthermore, Boxer has begun negotiations with the BBC and ITV to supply new Irish editions of
international channels, based on the best of BBC 3 and BBC 4, and ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 respectively.

How much will a Set Top box cost. I expect a DTT STB isn't much more complicated than a MPEG4 DVD player which you can buy nowadays for €29.

Hi I agree with all the above.

The last time there was going to be a price increase, they gave advanced notice. This time they didnt. Information came with the new bill.

Has anyone else had trouble when the weather is a bit bad outside that the channels on UPC are crap. I have to go to the normal tv just to watch stuff without the channel stopping&starting. I am going to ring up to give out as this isnt value for money.

Dont know if anyone else does this but the bill is in my name but I havent set up a direct debit, to lazy but they charge you extra cos of this. I know it has been reported on the news before but its kind of stupid.

Dont want to get Sky. Boxer sounds interesting. Is it available now & how do I go about getting it?. If it isnt available, can anyone who has left UPC and gone with another company recommend any other company.
