ntl sending out new upc cards

was watching ntl info tv the man was talking about how upc are sending out new set top box viewing cards to people in galway and the rest of the country ...was wondering does anyone know anything about the cars ,,will it change the interface or give more channels or effect the encryption ?

There have been a few theads on this. The new cards to to improved encryption and cut off the criminals whom steal the service.

what if u dont put the card in your own box will that stop you from reciving the higher encryption ...... are they getting a new interface ????

If you do not swap the card when they tell you, you get no service. The old cards will be turned off.

Havent gotten one of these yet but was thinking of getting one of their PVR's.
Do they give you a new box and will it work on MMDS I wonder.

Ugh **** NTL, it's been broken here since Christmas, guy still won't come out, spent a week ringing every day only to be told the same thing every day "sorry must have been a mix up, he'll be out tomorrow", then told he would come on the 29th of December,which he didn't. Then demanded a refund seeing as they were being paid for something they weren't providing, took four phone calls to get that sorted. Then totally gave up on them, demanded they cancelled it, then they told me I had to give 30 days notice and pay a cancellation fee. 30 days I was going to have to pay for a non-existant service.

They were told to go **** themselves and that they would be hearing from the national consumer agency.

NTL sucks poo.

NTL does suck ass. As for the new cards "stopping criminals":rolleyes:....they already have a new box set up and ready to go to the market the minute the new card is installed. Total waste of time from NTL to be honest

new set up box :cool: do ya think it will have a new interface ? and how much will it cost for existing customers ? any pics of the new box ?

I think Highside was referring to the pirate boxes. If NTL do switch to Nagra3 encryption as rumoured it will be the end of the pirate boxes as they can't break that standard yet.
It doesn't look like NTL plan on replacing their own boxes yet, a shame as the guide on the regular boxes doesn't work very well.

if they dont go too nagra 3 and go to nagra 2 is there a box that works over this encryption if so do you know the name

Just buy cheap DVD boxsets for good shows and avoid the deluge of crap, repeats, BigBruvva/TheHills/ProjectCatwalkDeathMatch and advertising.
