Really slow Airport problem

Hey all, care to help me with this really annoying problem I've been having with my wireless connection?

I bought my Macbook back in September but since then my wireless connection has been painfully slow. Sometimes it's pretty fast, but sometimes it can take up to a minute to load a page, even though, wherever I am in the house, the signal strength is always at the highest.

While the page is loading slow when I click on the wireless setting it still says that Airport is scanning, when it eventually turns on the page loads, and then it goes back to scanning when the page is finished.

The weird thing is my brother got a macbook over Christmas and he's had absolutely no problem with his connection, it's always fast.

We compared our wireless settings and the only differences we could find was my IP address was set to 192.168.1.18 while his was at 192.168.1.22. Could this make a difference? There was one other different setting, and that was the combination of WINS letters and numbers, what ever that is.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers

The IP addresses being different means nothing. WINS is a Microsoft protocol, and is irrelevant unless you want to connect PCs to your Airport network.

Does the slowness happen all the time, or only occasionally?

Have you tried connecting your Mac to the Airport using an Ethernet cable, to see if the slowness remains? (if it does, your ISP, or network settings like DNS etc, could be the issue).

Assuming the all is fast on Ethernet (meaning that the Airport bit of things is the issue), here are some other questions:

What Airport unit are you using?

    Is it capable of 802.11n?

You should use 802.11n on 5GHz if possible, as the chances of interference on 5GHz are much lower, and the 'n' protocol makes for a much faster network.

Try these things, and keep us up to date on your progress...
