    Hey folks,
I'm looking at getting a pickup, preferably a crew cab. I'm told that one or two models qualify for VRT of €50 even though they've four seats. I'm after doing a search and can't get a definite answer as to what cars qualify, could ye answer?

the official line is that the load area must be bigger than the seating area.

some of the crewcabs do qualify

word on the wind is that they are closing down the crewcab vrt of 50 for imports, there was talks of a new class, commercial with passenger accomadation

so,for the craic, ring the customs and give them the make and model BEFORE you buy and they will tell you how much it is to clear it

oflynno - that's not quite right.

To qualify as a crewcab, the load area length must be a minimum of 45% of the length of the wheelbase of the vehicle. This allows it qualify for 13.5% VRT.

If the Gross Vehicle Weight is also over 3449kg, then it qualifies for €50 VRT. The GVW is the weight which the car can carry, NOT the unladen kerb weight. It is normally printed on a plate in the engine bay with the chassis number and the colour code. If it's not there, then a letter will be needed from the manufacturer showing the chassis number of the vehicle and stating the GVW.

The weight rule also relates to standard commercial vehicles.

I've gone through this recently with a Hilux Surf SSR-X. Unfortunately it was 3cm too short for the crewcab option. I'm waiting for Toyota to confirm the GVW for the VRT on it.

Another thing to watch is that the windows have metal bonded to their insides. I had my windows completely blocked out and unusable, but I couldn't clear it because they weren't happy that there was no metal.

    Hope this helps.

    oops,apologies,i'm wrong

would that mean that the landcruiser amazon would qualify?

is there a letter or paperwork to that effect as i rang the customs about it and they said it would be decided on inspection, which is kind of too late as i was thinking of buying one before, but backed out when i couldn't get a proper answer.

    Sorry you are wrong.

Harris is Dublin are recognised as vehicle manufacturers so are allowed to change vehicle specs and weight plates.
They have re-speced the Dmax to be 3500kg DGVW.

They have done this by adding an extra leaf to the rear axle springs and uprating the shocks to Koni adjustables.

This means it does have the cheap VRT but has made the ride v hard.

    <_<

    >_>

Rumour has it some people have been removing the extra leaf after registartion...
