100 posts per page

Just wondering if there was ever any talk of getting the number of posts you can view per page increased from the current max 40 to 100? There's quite a few threads on boards.ie that would suit the 100 posts per page so much better.

In the poker forum, there is a BBV thread. Activity in that thread has increased so much over the last while, that there was 1640 posts in it last week, which amounts to 234 posts per day.

For some reason or another, you may find yourself a day or 2 behind and need to catch up. Having 100 posts per page would be sweet and would make reading, catching up and replying so much better.

Some of the better posters regularly go missing for a couple of days, and when they pop back in, may only view the last page of many threads. We all miss out on their contribution because of this.

Not sure if there is a technical reason why we cant go 100 posts pp. Would be interested to hear.

    Thanks

    Tony

This would be a great feature if it's possible to do.

^^^ I'm in work and cant open that link yet, will check it out when i get home. Cheers

Oh and i forgot to mention, which is the most important reason..

It would also make moderating so so much easier and less time consuming

    For your convenience...

Is it possible to have an option in thread tools to view all the posts in a thread on one page, I tend to scroll read threads a good bit and think it would be quite useful.

This would be unwieldy. Many threads have a few hundreds posts and some number in the tens of thousands.

The current maximum number of posts per page is 40 - this isn't for niceness, it's because retrieving each post from the database requires a certain amount of I/O bandwidth (internally on the server) & disk time. The more posts you have to retrieve, the more of both of these resources will be required.

This is why all such softwares paginate the results - retrieving a large number of rows from a database causes performance problems while everyone else waits for the database to retrieve the thread you want to view.

In addition, the network bandwidth required to send the page to you, while not massive, adds up overall if hundreds of us are using it.

In short, this is possible but will never be done. If anything, reducing the maximum number of posts per page from 40 to 20 would yield improvements in database performance overall, but would annoy quite a lot of us.

I'm like you - if I could have everything on one page, I could. We are unfortunately limited by the laws of physics

To summarise... such a feature would not be possible. :)

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
