Dell XPS Owners with PA-13 Power Supplys...

Have anyone here had faulty Power Supplys for their machines or had to get them replaced?

I found a fundamental design flaw in these (not Vista related:p)

There is very poor shielding (or none at all) between one of the +Ve and Gnd signals on the DC cord leading to the power jack.

I have had THREE power supplys with this issue.

My warranty is out so I opened up the [replacement] power supply and found the 2 wires shorting out, I had another power supply in my room... I also opened up this and hey presto, the same problem.

I recall the same thing happen an older XPS which I since sold.

So, I just sent a complaint to dell, as this is ridiculous fault and potentially fatal....!

Shielding relates to EM radiation, why this would be relevant I have no idea. Perhaps you mean insulation? If you were qualified to diagnose an electrical design flaw, you would presumably know the difference.. :/

The Digg link you've posted contains no firm information regarding the incident, or its relevance to your post.

The DC cord leading to the power jack carries 19.5V, which is NOT a potentially fatal voltage.

All major manufacturer PSUs are built to CE (and other) relevant specifications.

If you believe you have found a design fault (and are qualified to say so), by all means investigate it and report it to Dell. But the above post is mostly nonsensical conjecture, it serves no purpose.

The output voltage is irrelevant, whats relevant is the effect of a positive +Ve rail with a high amp rating shorting common ground signal.

Overtime this could have serious consequence such as sparks, heating, transformers blowing up and of course eventually going on fire, along with your living room possibly.

If your house went up in a puff try telling someone its just a nonsensical conjecture
